Why are supporters of the death penalty

I know the system can be flawed. I know sometimes the wrong person is convicted of stealing, or whatever. But, when the penalty has escalated to the death penalty, any doubt, any evidence, no matter when it is found, nothing matters, it all should be considered and we should never put a person to death if there is any doubt at all. So many seem so eager and interested in the process that the actual cases do not really matter. This is such a vengeful society, at least when it suits.
