Will there be any Great Performances this

Posted: Aug 1, 2015

Decision for the debate will be made from polls by 08/04 5:00 p.m. ET Will the bottom of the field be performing this weekend to try to make the cut? Is this the reason for Hucakbee's bizarre outspoken remarks in the past few days? What will they do to attract attention. Bad press worth more than no press at all? ;

These are not debates. They are designed to make any real leader look - foolish. They serve the interest of big media

consultant establishment and the entertainment triangle, not the interest of the people. It's a dog and pony show.

In this popular culture of celebrity, I heard this proposal (not my idea but I like it).

Put them on an "island" and give them political, economic, social, and security problems to solve. Then after seeing how well they work together, make them vote someone off the island before going to the next round. They would be simultaneously cooperating and competing to solve problems. This would quickly reveal leaders, team players, bullies, and wimps.

Advertisers would sponsor it. Viewers would learn about issues. Pundits would go nuts. Would be very entertaining.

Make it like Naked and Afraid, since sex sells. - I'm sure that will attract more

viewers.

Not Naked and Afraid - if Christie is included

[ In Reply To ..]
that's a visual I don't need.

Can you imagine HC and BS naked? - I would certainly be afraid.

Very, very afraid.

These are NOT debates. More like a Miss America - competition.

These are just staged media events that can provide no more than a glimpse of the candidates, and what the media are really hoping for is a bit of "cheesecake" - which in this context means someone having a "wardrobe malfunction" by committing some sort of gaffe, losing their temper, forgetting a fact, etc. If you've ever noticed, the biggest criterion for candidates to "win" in these debates is just to "get through" them without making themselves look foolish. That's a pretty low bar to meet.

It's this simple: You don't give people 2 minutes to articulate their positions on extremely complex issues and call it a "debate". Look up the Lincoln-Douglas debates and you'll see what a real debate looks like.

The problem is, today's average citizen wouldn't be able to sit through a real debate, so this is just a cheap substitute for the media to feed to the sheeples. And then, we need "post-debate analysts" to tell us what we should think about what the candidates said, because of course we could never figure that out for ourselves.

TV during the Nixon/Kennedy debates worked in Kennedy's favor, but Nixon won on the - radio. I'm leery of televised "debates&q

anyway. I've learned more about candidates when they are taken off guard, like Cruz and Code Pink. He handled that with class.

Oh, GreatDec 13, 2013
Our favorite hot sauce may now become either no longer available, or will be made in another country, because some people in the state it's made are "sensitive" to the smell. Okay, there goes another American job/factory and more people laid off because of someone's "sensitivity." If it is made out of the country, the price will go waaay up, not to mention, if it's made in China, goodness knows what they'll put in it. It's Sriracha---we love it. We grow our own hab ...

Saw Shrek 4 In 3-D It Was GreatJun 07, 2010
Summer is coming and we live in Florida where it is hot and rainy.  My son was bored and I was too... so we found a movie theater locally which did not cost an arm and a leg.  I took him to see Shrek 3-D and it was GREAT! Highly recommended.  I can see how some people might get a little nauseous with the 3-D because sometimes it is hard to take especially with buttered popcorn in the stomach! But it really was great in 3-D.  It really reminded me of the old "Disney."  As ...

Great Start To The DayApr 17, 2012
So, I run into this guy this morning who I haven't seen in about nine years. We're talking and then he says - You're bigger than the last time I saw you. Then, he goes on to say - You know how when people get older, they fill out. Okay, so now I'm not only bigger, but old too. That's just great. Just needed to vent. ...

Today Is Going To Be A Great DayOct 08, 2012
I'm just about over being sick.  I don't have to work today.  The whole day stretches before me in pure luxurious possibility.  Yes, I have to do more "job hunting," no the job hunt really isn't going that well.  But today, I'm gonna set that aside. I'm reading Longfellow (poet), I really like it, it's easy to read - poetry that's easy to read, what a concept!  I'm also working on a poem and my novel. It's like 24 hours' ...

Today's Another Great DayOct 11, 2012
Got the car fixed - several things wrong with it - so hopefully fingers crossed it will make it through the winter.  The whole winter.  And there's another car here, so if worse came to worst, I could take that. Moral of the story - a big stress is when "worse comes to worst" is on the horizon, and you have to live with that possibility day in and day out.  So one aspect of that is gone. Bought a nice velveteen-ish jacket at Salvation Army - eight dollars - it is pitiful wh ...

A Great RecipeJan 01, 2013
A woman I met some weeks ago gave me a recipe for crustless pumpkin pie.  I went on line and found one which varied somewhat from hers.  (She uses egg beaters and Splenda in her recipe because her husband is diabetic, etc.)   The recipe I used was perfect!   If anyone would like to try it (maybe for next season) I will gladly share it.  It is great not having to worry about making a perfect crust, which is not my strong point.   I never heard of a cru ...

Some good common sense and an irate reaction to Trump here, so probably this might be only for those of us who do not like Donald Trump - definitely a liberal cast to this blog, but what the heck I have to skim through those diatribes from the Heritage Foundation and that awful Judge Jeanine, so about time to spread a bit of progressive wealth of knowledge. America Is Great BecauseAug 03, 2016
If you watch this video of a Muslim-American (comedian) saying goodbye to America at the RNC (because of Trump's purported measures to ban Muslims and make a Muslim registry) you will see that the people he meets there are so nice and loving. I am just amazed that they go for Trump, who is certainly not a good person at all. I just think this video represents the repeated claim that there are not as many differences in people as there are similarities, that Americans on the whole ARE good ...

Interesting account of the wannabe Commander in Chief: Cannot conceive of how ANY U.S. veteran with a mind would consider voting for this charlatan and scam artist. He says how dearly he "loves the veteran," but in the 1960s, he and Daddy went to GREAT lengths to ensure he'd never become one. Dodged the draft. Went from 1-A to 1-Y allegedly because birthmarks on his heels precluded his serving. DID NOT prevent him from active athletics in college, however. We vets are bring exploited. Now, ...

Teachers And Their Great Projects! Dec 12, 2010
Where do these teachers come up with these ideas for projects?  My 10-yo has to do a book report on Thomas Edison (he had to pick someone).  What ever happened to the good old days where you read a book, wrote an essay and turned it in?  Now he has to present his "report" orally in front of the class, dressed as his character.  What do kids do whose parents don't have a suit and tie for their kid to wear?  What if they pick Annie Oakley -- do they get to carry a gun ...
