Interesting death penalty article

Posted: Jul 7, 2015

On the whole, Louisiana sounds pretty scary. Death penalty and the "depraved" crimes being committed. Of course, I would have interest in neither, so I idealistically am against the death penalty. I feel a little sorrow everytime a death penalty is issued and an emptiness when someone is executed in our state. http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/louisiana-prosecutor-becomes-blunt-spokesman-for-death-penalty/ar-AAcFQRq;

Is it better to kill the wrong person than to kill no person? - sm

If someone is executed and it turns out that person did not commit the crime, then what? The death penalty has never been a deterrent to murder (if you will read the article carefully you will see that the murder rate in that county has declined 67% since the early 1990's and Mr. Cox has been in position for only five years) any more than long prison sentences have been a deterrent to other types of crime, for one thing criminals don't count on being caught and for another the vast majority of murders happen on the spur of the moment, in the heat of passion one might say, they are not planned, regardless of how crime is depicted on television and in the movies and in novels, and again, those that do plan their murders think they are so methodical and so much more capable than the police that they believe that they won't get caught, so the death penalty doesn't enter into their calculations, also again, it happens with a fair amount of frequency that the wrong person is prosecuted and convicted of committing a crime which that person did not commit and this is something that could happen to anyone, anyone at all, so if you can't see this from a moral or ethical perspective, try looking at it from a perspective of self-interest, do you want to end up sitting on death row because you bore a striking resemblance to someone else or have a similar tattoo or perhaps knew the victim or something of that nature? Think about it, that sort of thing happens, it could happen to you.

These few self absorbed prosecutors - trying to put personal touch

on the law should not be allowed to be prosecutors. Most these type really do not care if the person is really guilty or not, it is not about right and wrong but it is a matter of wins and loses.This guy may have different thoughts about his actions if he ever awakes one night and sees a relative of someone he killed standing over his bed. The Judicial system has no room for these type prosecutors in a country where Police and Prosecutors already are out of control and need reeled in by the citizens. they are not serving the people but instead they are serving themselves and using the people serving as a vehicle to do so.

PSU Did Not Get The Death Penalty BecauseJul 23, 2012
The NCAA says the Death Penality does not fit in this case.  The FOOTBALL TEAM would have to be guilty of crimes committed while on probation.  The FOOTBALL TEAM did not commit any crimes.  Current and incoming football players are released to play at other universities if they so desire, or are now "free agents."  I so agree with this.  It is a shame that they will feel the affects of the punishment to the university, but there is no getting around it.  It had to b ...

Why Are Supporters Of The Death PenaltyOct 01, 2015
I know the system can be flawed. I know sometimes the wrong person is convicted of stealing, or whatever. But, when the penalty has escalated to the death penalty, any doubt, any evidence, no matter when it is found, nothing matters, it all should be considered and we should never put a person to death if there is any doubt at all. So many seem so eager and interested in the process that the actual cases do not really matter. This is such a vengeful society, at least when it suits. ...

US Execution Capital Reconsiders The Death PenaltyDec 06, 2010
New York - On Monday, Dec. 6, a district court in Texas will be asked – for the first time in that U.S. state's history – to decide whether the death penalty is unconstitutional based on the "disproportionately high risk of wrongful convictions" in Texas. John Edward Green, Jr., the defendant in Texas v. Green, is charged in the fatal shooting of a 34-year-old Houston woman during a 2008 robbery. He has not yet been convicted, but prosecutors say they would seek the ...

Do You Think Penn State Football Program Should Get The Death Penalty?Jul 16, 2012
Haven't made up my mind.  I see both sides of the argument.  First of all, so very many people will suffer who had nothing to do with the child sex abuse cover-up.  In reading arguments for and against, perhaps it is true that the persons responsible and or involved in any way should be fired, jailed, labeled as sex offenders, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP, and the football program should remain intact, as it is not fair to punish the ...
