a little gun history

A LITTLE GUN HISTORY In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control: · From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. ----------------------- In 1911, Turkey established gun control: · From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. ----------------------- Germany established gun control in 1938: From 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated. ----------------------- China established gun control in 1935: From 1948 to · 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. ----------------------- Guatemala established gun control in 1964: · From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. ----------------------- Uganda established gun control in 1970: · From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. ----------------------- Cambodia established gun control in 1956: · From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. ----------------------- 56 million defenseless people were rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control. ----------------------- You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information. · Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens. With guns, we are 'citizens'; without them, we are 'subjects'. During WW II, the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED! · Gun owners in the USA are the largest armed forces in the World! · SWITZERLAND ISSUES A GUN TO EVERY HOUSEHOLD! SWITZERLAND'S GOVERNMENT ISSUES AND TRAINS EVERY ADULT IN THE USE OF A RIFLE. · SWITZERLAND HAS THE LOWEST GUN RELATED CRIME RATE OF ANY CIVILIZED COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!! · IT'S A NO BRAINER! DON'T LET OUR GOVERNMENT WASTE MILLIONS OF OUR TAX DOLLARS IN AN EFFORT TO MAKE ALL LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS AN EASY TARGET. · ;

I thought it was a - no brainer...

that there was never going to be any serious gun control in the US no matter how much mayhem happens. Do you really think in this day and age if the government wanted to come and exterminate you, you'd have a chance with a hunting rifle and a few or even a few hundred guns?

I also think it is doubtful that some maniac starts shooting up a theater, church, school, or mall, work place, that your average Joe or Joan who happens to be packing is going to be able to save the day.

As for Switzerland, don't you think it has something to do with them just being more mellow in general?

The reality is casual access to firearms by pretty much anyone who can hold one leads to more gun crimes, mass murders, accidental shootings, etc.

I think you can add to the list the huge number of people killed in the United States in the just the last 10 years from the LACK of gun control. I am not saying that competent people should not be able to buy A gun to defend their families (like a handgun or a rifle for hunting), but why is it that gun people always tout that every citizen in American should be able to buy any kind of gun that is available in the world and have a huge weapons cache of them just because it is their right to own one under our Constitution? There is no earthly good reason for anyone to have a gun that shoots hundreds of rounds in seconds. There is also no good reason to just allow any citizen to buy any kind they want without some kind of background check and a peek at their mental health history. I am all for what the forefathers had in mind of a family have a gun for defense and hunting, but they did not foresee the automated weapons we have today - they were all using muskets when they wrote the Constitution. If everyone was able to just get muskets, that would be okay with me!!

Great post! - Gun-totin lib

People with more guns tend to kill more people—with guns. The states with the highest gun ownership rates have a gun murder rate 114% higher than those with the lowest gun ownership rates. Also, gun death rates tend to be higher in states with higher rates of gun ownership. Gun death rates are generally lower in states with restrictions such as assault-weapons bans or safe-storage requirements. Update: A recent study looking at 30 years of homicide data in all 50 states found that for every one percent increase in a state's gun ownership rate, there is a nearly one percent increase in its firearm homicide rate.

Not saying this will happen this election cycle, but I just thought you all might find this bit of history as interesting as I did Incumbent presidents who have been challenged while seeking reelection: Theodore Roosevelt challenged WH Taft in 1912 - Taft wins nomination. Robert Kennedy challenged Lyndon Johnson in 1968 - Johnson decides not to run in the face of several challengers and nomination goes to Hubert Humphrey, who loses to Nixon. Ronald Reagan challenged Gerald Ford - Ford w ...

A Little History On What Is Now The Patriot ActJun 27, 2013
This law was enacted in 1994. It was expanded in 2006/2007.  For a lot more information, you should look up Chapter 119, title 18 of the U.S. Code.  The second report gives  little more info, which I will post a paragraph or two in a different typestyle so you all don't get confused and starting with the word "background." So, for those bashing Bush for starting electronic survellience, I'm sure you will agree that he was NOT President in 1994-1995 or did I miss so ...

It was made very clear tonight that the politicians voted against what their constituants wanted.  That to me makes a sham of our political system.  We should not be democrats vs republicans; we should be Americans.  What kind of mess are we leaving for our children to clean up and how will they do it if they do not have the education and resources to do it?  This is all being done on fake money.  It will run out, and like many who learned that you cannot buy a house t ...

Confederate History MonthApr 09, 2010
"Virginia's governor made "an unacceptable omission" by not mentioning slavery when he proclaimed it Confederate History Month, President Obama says." I think our president needs to look at the Civil War and the reason for it. The Civil War was not all about slavery. It was about State's Rights. I'll admit that slavery was a huge mistake and should not have been done.  However, slavery is NOT the most egregious stain in our history. Slaughtering the native inhabi ...

A Bit Of History On Margaret SangerOct 07, 2012
Just a little bit 'cuz I'm getting tired of doing research today.  In 1921, Sanger founded the American Birth Control League, which later became the Planned Parenthood. The mission of the clinic in Harlem was to control and help limit the African American population. In 1929, she formed the National Committee on Fe ...

Raising The Debt Limit. A Little Bit Of HistoryApr 14, 2011
After World War II ended, the debt limit was reduced to $275 billion. Because the Korean War was mostly financed by higher taxes rather than by increased debt, the limit remained at $275 billion until 1954. After 1954, the debt limit was reduced twice and increased seven times, until March 1962 when it again reached $300 billion, its level at the end of World War II. Since March 1962, Congress has enacted 74 separate measures that have altered the limit on federal debt. Time Line from 1958-2011 ...

Third Reich:The Rise and Third Reich: The Fall.  I found it very interesting, although the filming was pretty awful with all that flashing. The films were made by the German people. The Rise was the history and reasons of how Hitler came into power. It almost parallels the conditions in the U.S. today. The Fall showed some known facts about Hitler and his armies, but it also showed how tough the German civilians had it during and after the war. I knew that Hitler got so desperate duri ...

Tx History Reminds Us They Were Dead Broke When TheyNov 13, 2012
So much for all that rugged spirit of independence. US history informs us that unilateral secession is unconstitutional without the consent of the remaining states except as a byproduct of revolution. The last time that notion took a test run, it was a costly, abysmal failure. Tx does have the option of seceding from itself via subdivision into smaller states that remain in the union. None of the above options pass muster with Governor Perry now that he is harboring fantasies of a second pre ...

Jimmy Carter, The Most Honest President In HistorySep 05, 2016

Since Truman, no incumbent has been reelected with a poll number below 49% at this point in the election cycle.  I am omitting Bush 2, who had 48% but whose reelection ultimately had to be decided by the courts so I think you have to simply toss this election out when looking at voter trends. As a general rule, undecideds almost always break away from the incumbent, and they will surely do so in the current environment - both globally, domestically and economically - in all of which areas ...
