Evidently, Mother Jones doesn't like Bernir Sanders

They dug up a very old article on him.

Already discussed below in the post about Jeb Bush. - Immediate deflection to Hillary and Bernie by Cons

[ In Reply To ..]
See a few topics below where conservatives took an OP about Jeb Bush and immediately turned it into a Hillary rant, followed swiftly by the Bernie bashing.

It's only a few topics below and already beat to death.

Hard to miss...... same old, same old Con deflection as per usual. The party of "family values" is twisted in knots about words Bernie wrote on paper over 40 years ago. Meanwhile, they make excuses for their GOP ilk that actually molest little girls and rape young boys and then cover it up.

The GOP party of "values" reeks with hypocrisy, and the stench is overpowering.

All I read is someone atempting to explain how Hillary might be - the one who leaked the story about

[ In Reply To ..]
Bernie, which is very possible given the Clinton's past.

And speaking of deflecting, I also see that everytime someone mentions Hillary, - deflection turns to Reagan

[ In Reply To ..]
as if nothing Hillary does matters.

It was the Clintons who got Salon in 1998 to publish a story - about a long ago affair

story about a long ago affair that Republican Henry Hyde had while Hyde was spearheading Clinton's impeachment through the House.

Dredging up decades old dirt and releasing it at an opportune is the Clinton MO.

If Democrats held themselves out as the party of God Almighty, - perhaps they'd get the same scrutiny as Cons.

[ In Reply To ..]
:)
Since the press is 95% democrats, then it doesnt surprise me of the hypocrisy, - because news is neutral and
[ In Reply To ..]
if it's not it's propaganda.
Care to supply proof of your incorrect claim that the press is 95% Democrats? - That is false rhetoric. - nm

It's 15 to 1 in favor Democrats, depending on if it's a Washington bureau chief - or a regular journalist. I got

Not 95%, but I believe more press and more population lean left. And why do you think that is? - Julia Sugarbaker
[ In Reply To ..]
Is it like Bernie has been accused/ridiculed for, and that Repubs are "too intelligent" for the masses?

Oh, I don't think so.

Is it because Republicans are the only "upright, righteous" people in society and that group is then smaller?

You. Wish.

Is it because there's an agenda trying to sink America?

Take your meds, for the love of God, if you truly believe that.

I think it's because the Republicans cannot figure out a way to appeal to, adapt to and accept new people, new ideas, new issues, and an ever-changing society as a result and claim it's "being conservative."

No, it's being unrealistic and exhibiting willful stubborn ignorance.

Asking society not to change is like asking your kids to never grow up and remain innocent naive children - it's ridiculous.

No, if you're the sort of person that can't accept your kids will inevitably grow up and change and think you can't love them anyway, then YOU are the one that needs to change - get it now?

Abraham Lincoln understood how to keep his eye on the moral ball despite what even his own party or people said, even fight for change. He also understood when government spending was appropriate. Teddy Roosevelt understood it even more so (even calling R's the progressive party). Heck, even Eisenhower knew how to do that. Why can't you?

And Repubs behave as if even themselves should be living under Old Testament Pharisee law in 2015, though even Christ himself tried to get Pharisees to rethink some of these man-made laws (which they crucified him for). Even Republicans themselves clearly can't live under all of OT law and this is why they seem the most hypocritical.

So if Repubs can't figure out how to adapt with an ever-changing world and still keep their eye on the moral ball...if they don't start backing up their "smaller spending" words up with action instead of using spending to benefit only their own interests/themselves... if they don't start taking responsibility for
the fact that even THEY can't adhere to all of OT law?

Then the Republican party will stagnate, die out and become extinct and that day cannot come soon enough for me.

So you have some choices to make Repubs - you can either learn to do as Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt did and figure out how to still adhere to morality and still accept progress... or you can keep trying with futile attempts to prevent this nation from growing up, which will result in the Republican party stagnating and becoming extinct - what's it gonna be?
In short, Repubs, this country is going to grow up and you can't stop it. Maybe you should too - Julia Sugarbaker

It's said to us all at some point in life. Though it stings like a shot, it makes us better - Julia Sugarbaker

If I sat around and cried about it, then nothing changed.

When I realized the truth in it and that maybe they were right, it was ME that needed to change, I realized it helped me be a better person or at least roll with the changes better.

Not that I'm perfect now, but personal change and taking responsibility isn't just for us lefties ya know:)
The typical leftist considers him/herself rational and everyone - else with various degrees of
[ In Reply To ..]
irrationality.
The press is leans left and reports "news" to shape - public opinion. Some of them early
[ In Reply To ..]
on in their youth think they want to "change the world" when they should just be reporting the news.
And the right press doesn't do this? Kidding yourself. Why do either one do this? - Julia Sugarbaker
[ In Reply To ..]
Maybe they're doing it to help us think in new ways. Maybe they're doing it to suit their own shareholdings in this or that. Maybe they're doing it because they like to control what we think.

Who knows but it doesn't really matter anymore, it's not going anywhere on either side. And in the end, if we can't separate out fact from sensationalism with any political leaning news source leaning either way, that's our fault
I would agree 95% of the "news" is not news - on some stations
[ In Reply To ..]
This could explain Fox programming like the Today Show. They run out of talking points and devolve into home ec projects. CNN does a lot of repeat coverage, but they rarely just give up and talk about coffee cups. There are a few human interest stories when things are slow and occasionally Jeannie Moos does a funny satire for a few minutes (haven't seen her in a while, actually).

Fox just stops all real coverage and the three or four of them talk amongst themselves about "NOTHING."

I have been switching from CNN to Fox at certain points when news stories come out, and I cannot believe what Fox will run for an hour or more before they figure out how to spin and finally report on something happening. There is always the old standby (Clinton emails or if they are really stretching Benghazi).

Someone actually posted below it was satire and guess Bernie is - just too intelligent for the masses.

[ In Reply To ..]
If that's intelligence, I guess I'm stoopid.

Did a republican say this? No? Then it won't - matter. Hail to the King, Baby.

When the so-called "family values" party is unmasked as hypocrites - the press goes into overdrive.

[ In Reply To ..]
That whole "party of God" load of utter false rhetoric is again coming home to roost. It seems more and more Republicans are being bitten squarely on the rear end for holding themselves out as the "morally superior" group. Democrats who don't hold themselves out as the party of "family values" will naturally not be scrutinized in the same manner since they never claimed to be anything but human.

It's really a quite simple concept to grasp. Since the GOP continues to claim they are the "religious right" and profess to be the "good" in the "good vs. evil" equation, why in the world should it surprise them in the least to be held to the higher standard to which they constantly claim they hold?

The more superior they claim to be, the harder the fall back to actual reality. The stench of the hypocrisy is an eye opener and fodder for tabloid-type journalism.

I am well aware of the double standard of the press, have been - for years.

[ In Reply To ..]
nm
Why shouldn't the press hold Cons to their own standard of "family values"? - Hypocrisy ring a bell?
[ In Reply To ..]
If conservatives are going to continue the constant preaching that they are the party of "family values" and keep up the rhetoric against their fellow Americans who don't hold their similar religious views, why shouldn't the press hold conservatives to the lofty standards that they've set for themselves? It's awfully convenient to bash the press for conservatives not living up to their own baseless hype; it's that same old dance that we've seen going on for decades.

When conservatives stop preaching they are the party of God and the religious right when nothing could be further from the truth, that is the point the double standard will cease to exist. Until then, it's quite convenient for conservatives to blame the press for holding them to the double standard of their own creation.
Not all Republicans are Christians. Some are social conservatives, some are - fiscal, etc., but illegal activity is
[ In Reply To ..]
illegal, doesn't matter what your party is.
Watch the debate in August and get back to me on that. - LOL
[ In Reply To ..]
Watch them pander to their religious base and talk of their "family values" and moral superiority and against their fellow Americans that don't subscribe to their religious beliefs.

I long for the day when the pandering stops and conservatives realize that the Southern Strategy has run its course and that far right-wingnut religious fringe is a hindrance that conservatives no longer need to pander to, and I think they'll be tossing them off soon enough.

It's a comedy to watch these bozos flip-flop their positions to pander to the base, particularly the Republican governors of the blue states. All the flipping and flopping to appeal to the crowd they're wooing. So Scott Walker is now anti-immigration in contrast to what he has said for years before. Now Chris Christie has just flip-flopped on common core. Marco Rubio has flip-flopped on immigration too, and Mitt Romney flopped and flipped on every single position he ever held as Governor of Massachusetts, pandering to that base. I'm not a fan of Jeb Bush, but I do admire the fact that he isn't doing the flip-flop exercise the rest of them are doing just to pander to the holier than thou base that disdains anyone who doesn't agree with their religious dogma.

The article did not indicate they didn't - like him --- at all

This was more a statement of understanding where his ideology started and how he tailored his spoken word to be heard.

"Sanders and his cohorts succeeded in nudging the university forward on civil rights over the course of his three years on campus. But it was a struggle. The committee to study the university's housing practices, for instance, was a far from satisfying outcome for many of the student demonstrators, Sanders included. (When the journalist Rick Perlstein brought up the subject of the compromise in a recent interview, the Senator issued "a weary sigh.") And after the initial furor over Sanders' sexual-freedom manifesto died down, life on the quads returned to normal—late-night curfews and all. In that sense, it was an appropriate lesson for a young activist who would go on to spend most of his political career as an outsider. Lasting political change doesn't come overnight. Even if you use ALL CAPS."

Do We Really Need Mother's Day, Father's Day?May 10, 2015
