Has anyone else experience this ?

Posted: May 28, 2015

After ten years of having the Wound Care Clinic at the place I work for being my primary account, last week they just disappeared.  I wouldn't have had any warning except that in the body of one report a few weeks ago one of the docs told the patient that they were switching over to EMR.

I know it sounds like nothing, but I have typed for these four physicians for Ten Years, almost exclusively!  I know they don't know that only one person was doing their transcription, they never met me, and my life certainly did not enter into their decision to go with another form of documentation, but I feel like a close friend just suddenly died!  I'm going through the stages of mourning - crying at the drop of a hat, angry (generalized, and at not being told), wishing there was some way to at least talk to them and say goodbye.

And to top it all off, most of what I'm getting to fill the void is discharge summaries, which are brain-numbingly boring and labor intensive, since you really only can make skeletal templates for each dictator, but mostly have to type it all out.

I'm glad I'm at retirement age.  I haven't retired yet, but I feel like what's left for me here?

I started to write up a resume for the first time in 25 years for a job outside the home (I've been an IC for 25 years), maybe as a secretary or receptionist.

How much can one person take?  My mother died in December, my husband and I are divorcing, our house is up for sale, my grown daughter is getting her own apartment, and now this.  Anybody got a volcano I can throw myself into? - No, just kidding. But I do wish I could just go to sleep and wake up with me in my own apartment with a nice, quiet job, and have all of this over with!

Please don't blast me for sounding entitled! I re-read it and I know that compared to people who are doing nothing but SR for five cents a line, this does not sound like a big deal. I've had a good run, and I know it. I just wish I knew what to do with his mourning feeling.

I have had this happen more than once - sm

You do feel a sense of loss, and I hate to tell you this, but things are not going to get better. I have had this happen a couple times. You need to sulk, be angry, and feel sorry for yourself for a little bit, and then get over it. You need to look forward. Are you going to stay in MT, or look for another line of work? Weigh the pros and cons of each.

Losing an account you thought you would have forever, making good money, will change your way of life, so you will "mourn" it somewhat, but considering the position you are in now, you do not have much time to do that. I have been on easy street a couple times, now.... not so much.

What makes me kinda angry is, where is the professional work ethic these days? I may be old school, but there used to be a thing called professionalism. Any employer would expect the courtesy of you giving them 2 weeks notice if you left. What kind of notice do we get? It is awful when your income comes to a screeching halt with no warning. It has a big impact on your life. Also, in days gone by, if you interviewed for a job, you sent a thank you note to the person you interviewed with. If you were not selected for the job, you at least got a "we regret to inform you" letter. Now, nothing!! Sad, it is, but I will tell you this - you need to always look out for NUMBER 1. No matter what a company asks or expects from you, you are the only one who is going to take care of you. Keep that in mind in the future. Even if you have a job, if you are offered a better one - take it. I have learned some companies will not wait for you to give your 2 weeks notice. They want it NOW. All sense of professionalism has vanished!

Wish you the best of luck. We have all walked in your shoes.

Thank you for your kind words - I feel so silly

I am seriously considering finding a job outside the home. It would mean a huge cut in pay, but I'm now taking 13 hours a day to earn what I was making in seven hours before. And with the divorce and selling the house, it would really go along with my new life and taking care of myself, which is something I've never done. I've spent the last 44 years taking care of other people. It feels right, so maybe it's time.

What to do with that mourning feeling. - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
What to do with that mourning feeling? Mourn! It is there for a reason. A meaningful part of your life ... actually all those people ... are lost to you. They as good as died. Or, worse, rejected you. They abandoned you.

It is ok to mourn. Healthy, too. Going with it will help you get over it.

If you are so inclined, you can give it to God. That sometimes helps.

Try looking up the stages of grief. Make a little chart and track where you are every day. You will move along.

I think perhaps you had thought you were "immune" to this happening to you, so you are in shock mode. It has happened to all of us in one form or another, but unfortunately--and this is not to hurt you, it's to keep others informed--nobody is immune in this job.

We who have been with the big companies have learned to realize it's been going down the tubes since the mid 2000's. I got out in 2012, after finally not being able to take it anymore. But, no, I wasn't shocked. I mourned, though. It was extremely sad.

Let yourself be angry, cry, then put on your big-girl pants and work towards finding something else.

To ALL who are reading this! LOOK TO TRY TO GET OUT OF THIS HORRIBLE BUSINESS while you are still in this biz. Don't wait for the rug to be yanked out from under you.

I found a nice clerical job, just doing office work, answering phones, stuff like that. I love it. I'm near retirement, and this will hold me over until I can collect Social Security in 2 years.

So sorry for your situation. I know how it feels - Dee

because it just happened to me earlier this month. A local clinic that I worked with for 16 years suddenly had an 'upgrade' to their system and I wasn't able to receive their work anymore! It was devastating! At the same time we are trying to sell our home and the buyers had just backed out. My husband became very sick with the flu, I had to cancel a trip I had been looking forward to for a year because of the lack of income and our daughter announced she was moving out of town. All of this happened in 3 weeks.

I am so angry, hurt and disappointed at the lack of concern this clinic has had for me, knowing I was left completely without income. They never notified me. I had to contact them to see why there was no work on the system.

After all this, I'm now looking at jobs outside of home. It will be about half of what my income was but I know it is for the best.

I hope and pray you will find peace during this terrible time. I am truly sorry for your pain.

I too, have lost an account lately. A hugh account. It was my "secondary" to my primary (even though we are not allowed to use those terms anymore). It was my go-to whenever my primary tanked, and it has tanked a lot lately. It was one I could depend on when times got slow like in the winter. Not anymore. GONE. Poof. Told it was going to be done in-house. I suppose it was because of all the errors from those who don't care, but I did. Now not sure what this winter is going to bring. Just sharing.

Hate to say it, but I doubt it's going to be done in-house. I would guess that it was shipped to India. They never admit that right to your face.

No, "done in house" is now what facilities tell MTSOs - when they are using ...

[ In Reply To ..]
That is what MTSOs are told when facilities switch to front-end SR and EHR. The work typically dries up over time as doctors begin using it, then they pull the plug.
That's what happened to me. I got what I - thought was a great new job - S/M
[ In Reply To ..]
at a large radiologic imaging center, and it turns out all I was hired for was to "train" their new front-end SR. Once it went live, it took the radiologists all of 2 weeks to go completely MT-less, and I then got dumped.

Now, as I continue to job-hunt, I just pass right by all MT jobs, but particularly any "in-house" MT jobs. They're not even worth the effort to apply for.

What An Experience! Jan 24, 2011
He grasped me firmly but gently just above my elbow, guided me into his room and quietly shut the door. We were alone. He approached soundlessly from behind and spoke in a soft voice: "Just relax." Without warning, he reached down and soon I felt his strong hands start at my ankles, gently probing, moving steadily upward along my calves. My breath caught in my throat. I knew I should be afraid, yet somehow I just didn't care. His touch was experienced and sure. As his hands moved up my thig ...

Anyone With Experience With This?Oct 23, 2015
Last month, someone charged 300+ in nutrition products to my charge card exactly ten days before it expired, then a few minutes later tried it again.  The card company noticed it and texted me.  I told them that I did not make the charges, so they charged the first one back to the nutrition products seller and declined approval on the second one, and cancelled the card. The online seller, a fitness company, has now submitted their evidence.  They claim I bought it and they shippe ...

Anyone Have Experience With This Situation?Sep 09, 2011
Although I'm making a pretty decent income between my full-time and part-time IC jobs, I'm looking to not only make a bit of extra money but also just to have something fun (and a bit more social) to do on the side. Without naming names (which I believe is against board rules here), I'm checking into two Swavorski crystal independent distiributorship opportunities.  I can't name names, but I believe someone on this forum posted a few months ago about repping for one of ...

Past ExperienceJun 06, 2011
Anyone ever have a person in their past that they miss and can't get out of their heads; you just wish they would somehow walk back into your life just to be near them again if only for a moment to feel what you used to feel? Does that sound pathetic? If you tell someone this they tell you to let it go, but you really don't want to - you just want to hold on. ...

Does Anyone Have Any Experience Making Jul 04, 2012
I got interested in this after hearing a radio show about fermented foods and the recipe seemed simple, cabbage, salt, let  it sit out for 4 weeks or so and there you have it.  My cabbage has been sitting out for a couple of weeks now and is actually sort of looking like the sauerkraut you get in the cans.  Has anyone ever made this, eaten it and lived to tell the tale?  Thanks and happy 4th!  ...

Wondering If Anyone Else Has Had This ExperienceJul 21, 2012
I recently said on another board I was glad I did not have any friends because no one can say do it for the kids.  Well, when I talk about my anxiety and depression, I get very sick and tired of people saying it is because I do not have enough faith.  Believe me, I do.  Or I did anyway.  I have asked to be filled with the holy spirit.  I have begged for a miracle.  Not sure what else to do, but it is CHEMICAL.  Has nothing to do with faith.   Off soapbox ...

Anyone Have Experience Selling Coins?Jun 28, 2011
I recently discovered that some old money I have had for decades is actually worth something.  Most of it is US silver coins, but I have some old foreign money both coin and banknotes that are selling on EBay for thousands times their face value.   I know there is a difference between what a coin dealer will give you and what the money retails for, but I really can't invest the time in putting them up for auction myself.  But, I don't want to give them away.&nb ...

Anyone Else Experience Palpitations Or Fluttering With Atenolol?Jun 23, 2012
With the summer weather in my "neck of the woods," my feet and ankles have been swollen and yesterday I was put on atenolol, which the doc said would help with my blood pressure and the swelling.
