Two grown, 4 children visiting San Antonio later

Posted: Apr 21, 2015

The kids are ages 8, 10, 11 and 13. I want to go to the, believe it is called City Walk (?) and would like anyone who might live there or know the city some information on a nice place to eat, not the most expensive but not McDonald's either. Total of 6 traveling so also on the lookout for a hotel that might fit that many. TIA.;

I've been there one time, and we stayed on the River Walk area, which might be what you're referring to, but there might be a City Walk for all I know ;) The River Walk is absolutely gorgeous!! I can't stress enough that you HAVE to see it when you're there. It's lined with gift shops, restaurants, anything you could want. Old stone staircases leading up to street level, historic buildings, boat tours, you name it. It's just a small canal that goes in a loop, and you can easily walk the entire length of it, walk up to street level, cross the bridge, and go back down to come back full circle. We also went to see the Alamo, which is within easy walking distance of the River Walk, and went to one restaurant in town. Other than that, the River Walk had all we needed for entertainment, eating, shopping, etc.

I lived there 12 years. - mtin

The River Walk is beautiful, but the restaurants there are expensive. For kids, it's probably better to stay near Sea World or Fiesta Texas. For BBQ, Bill Miller is the best affordable place, Rudy's is better food but pricier. Taco Cabana is Mexican fast food, but there are Tex Mex restaurants all over town. Anything with Jalisco in the name is usually pretty good. Look for "hole in the wall" places that look like they used to be gas stations or Dairy Queens. They're usually the best home style Mexican food and the best prices. If you want a little fancier place (also more expensive), Mi Tierra downtown has great atmosphere. Hooter's River Center has great food, and kids eat free Saturday nights.

Are Anybody Else's Grown Children (30 Y/o)Feb 20, 2011
I have two grown sons and I think the daughter-in-laws have a good deal to do with it, but they are mad at me all the time.  One sends me nasty E-mails to which I do not respond at all.  The other is more passive-aggressive (such as unfriended me on Facebook and didn't wish me Happy Anniversary, although sent a text TO MY HUSBAND). I try to walk a very tight line because they use my grandchildren as weapons, and I won't get to see them.  I never criticize their actions; ...

Need To Tell My Grown Children About Medical IssuesOct 29, 2009
I have always considered myself in excellent health especially with all the health issues I type on each and every day with people younger or near my age. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in the late 80s and the doctor asked me about anyone in my family who had it, usually he said runs in the females and told me to let any daughters I might have the information. I went back to an older aunt and she could think of no one in the family with this. I since have been diagnosed with a kidney diseas ...

Grown Children And Sibling RivalryAug 27, 2010
I have two grown, successful children.  A 30 y/o son, married with a child, lives about 4 hours away.  A 25 y/o daughter, single, professional, working full time and enrolled in a master's program, lives 10 hours away. Naturally, I see my son more often.  He wants his child to be in our lives as much as possible (my father practically raised him when his father bailed on us).  I just had a long conversation with my daughter who apparently has always felt that I "favor" ...

Visiting Friends Out Of State Soon And They Want To TakeDec 23, 2013
Have never been to this church, know about it and the pastor is well known in America. I have read reports about their standing, singing with band, loud blaring music because the auditorium is huge for almost an hour and cameras all over the place filming people close up I guess for the TV crowd. I am so not into this. I was brought up wearing dresses to church, music was soft and that is how I would want if I went to church. I have mostly pants I wear all the time. I have said do not care to g ...

Kids Visiting In Summer, Still Having To WorkApr 12, 2013
and I am one who works straight through without taking time out of the day. I know I can get Netflix for them, they have their Ipads, can get some crafty things to make and some games like puzzles and the lot. I know this sounds like a lot to me but I don’t want them bored to tears. We are planning trips while they are here but then the work days are still hanging around in between. Any other suggestions some of you mothers have for the time you have to be at the keyboard? ...

Easy Lunches, Snacks, Etc For Visiting KidsMar 17, 2013
Hopefully some little friends of mine, 9 and 11, will be spending some time with me this summer and I need some ideas about quick and easy lunches and snacks for them. Mother-in-law Spent 2 Months In Cyprus VisitingNov 01, 2013
My mother-in-law was born and raised in Cyprus.  She came to the United States 58 years ago and is a United States citizen.  For years she has visited Cyprus and they were known to an average country.  My MIL was known as rich when she visited and she would help them out.  Her family showed respect to the United States and thought it was wonderful to live in the United States.  The last time my MIL visited her family was 6 years ago.  She just got back from her tri ...

Instead Of Visiting Disaster Scene, Obama Lectures Louisiana OnAug 20, 2016
Though he could not be bothered to interrupt his Martha’s Vineyard vacation to actually visit those devastated by historic flooding in Louisiana and beyond, President Barack Obama’s Justice Department did manage to send the disaster-plagued state’s leaders a refresher course in anti-discrimination law. The federal agency drafted a 16-page document laying out in excruciating detail the hoops aid workers must jump through in order to avoid running afoul of the law. Any organizations ...

Confrontational Grown Kid, So TiredMar 31, 2015
Before someone says way they were raised, both kids grown and difference between night and day. I just called my daughter to ask a simple question. She works with math, I am slow with it. She does a short form income tax each year, I itemize. My question was what was the standard deduction for a person on short form. Moms Of Married Grown KidsJul 14, 2014
I am the mother of grown kids. My son is married x11 years, has a 6 year old. He and his wife are having problems because her caught her cheating. They are trying to work through it, but he was a preteen when my own marriage fell apart due to my ex's repeated cheating. Since this is his wife's second time cheating, he feels that they are done and is just trying to be civil until their situations get settled (separate living places, custory, finances and all that stuff...). I still spe ...

Should You Lie To Your Children?Sep 02, 2016
I just recently found out my ex-husband lost his house because he hasn't paid the taxes on it for four years.  He is an alcoholic, doesn't work, and is bipolar as well.  He somehow manages to come up with money to buy his alcohol, but won't get a job to pay his bills or taxes.  He's a veteran and gets charity organizations to pay his utilities.  He doesn't even own a car that runs anymore.  He's just really pathetic.  I divorced him for ...

Perfection From Our ChildrenFeb 18, 2012
Most people are worried when they're kids are "out of control." Okay, that's a concern.  What about when they are walking around tryiing to be perfect for parents' with ridiculous expectations?  A note below sparked the thought. A kid who is doing competitive gymnastics (a horror in my mind), plus horseback riding, dancing, singing in a chorus, on and on is not being a kid. When would there be time for THAT?   Gymnastics, in my opinion, is a horror. Little perfec ...

Divorce And What It Does To ChildrenOct 29, 2010
My boyfriend has 5 children.  He was married to his former wife for 14 years.  They have been divorced for 1 year now; separated for 3, and have 5 children together ranging from almost 13 years old to 5 years old.  He had custody of them in the beginning because she abandoned them (left the state with another man)....then she was somehow able to get custody back. Anyway that really isn't the issue. The youngest (5-year-old) has been potty trained since he was 3.  He rea ...

Psychic ChildrenOct 19, 2010
I need some input about something that my 3 y/o grandson has been saying.  He has been saying that the "shadow man" comes out of his roof and says bad things to him.  He tells him to go away and he does and he goes back to sleep.  That is only at his house.  He does not seem scared, he says "he makes me mad".  On the anniversary of my father's death, I took him with me to place flowers at the grave.  He was talking to the air, having a conversation with "a man ...

Babysitting 4 Children/$$Oct 07, 2015
I have posted before about babysitting 4 children a few nights a week.  Upon hire, I was told I would get paid $35 a night (5 hours).  I have logged in 4 nights.  I have only gotten paid $75 so far - and that was after I pretty much had to beg for it. Something I Really Do Not Understand About Children.Nov 23, 2015
Why?   How can people stand to sit there and listen to their kid scream constantly, intermittently every few seconds,  nonstop, for over an hour,  let alone 10-15-20 minutes or so? This one next door will scream at him in return  "STOP" and he keeps it up, then she screams again,  he keeps it up, and so on.   This goes on the better part of a day sometimes. This baby is about 2 years old,  dysfunctional family where the mother and father both scream ...
