Just sharing to get off my chest.

This is the saddest day I have had since my father died.  My daughter's family pet, 12-yo Husky had cancer.  They have known for about 2 months.  Got worse.  They knew last night that today was probably going to be the day they would have to put him down.  She and her husband stayed home from work to take him to the vet, and I agreed to take the kids, 8 and 4, to school.  The kids have also known he was seriously ill.  They put him outside to see if he would get up or move around, even though it was pouring down raining.

The saddest thing I have ever seen is my 8-yo grandson go out in the pouring down rain to say good-bye to his dog, rubbing him, talking to him, and crying over him.  When they took the dog away, he sat down on the patio and cried his eyes out.  And then he had to get ready for school.

I have cried all day.

You really do not know how much my heart goes - out to you

I love animals, totally love them. I wrote not long ago about a stray named Taffy that had to be put down. I am way up in age and had never had to do that before, never. My heart still aches because I just loved him so much so I know how you and your family must feel because you have had this one so much longer, not that it mattered to me, a week, a year or 11 but they are members of our family, any animal person knows that. I so am sorry for your loss.

My heart hurts for you family. I don't care what anyone says, it is SO difficult to lose a much loved pet no matter the circumstances. I have tears in my eyes thinking about your grandson. What a tender heart he must have. It just shows what a kind person he is. Prayers for your family to help get through this.

I'm crying as I'm reading your story. - sm

God bless you and your family. Your daughter's Husky knew how much he was loved. And he certainly loved his family. There really are no words to say to describe the heartbreak that accompanies the loss of a pet. They're our family members with 4 legs. Your poor little grandson. Bless his heart.

So very sorry for you and your family - Christine

The hurt over this kind of loss is tremendous. To see a child hurting so much is heartbreaking. I say it every time I post about the loss of a pet, and I will say it again. I truly feel we will connect with them on the other side. One who gives and receives love as our pets do surely must live on. God bless all of you. My heart aches over this story.

OMG so sad, I'd feel the same way. I'm sorry. nm - acuteMLS

I am crying with you too. I found out last Friday our little furry friend has cancer in her lymph n - MI MT

I cry every time I have to think about it. She is still eating and doing pretty well, but the doc says it can go really fast. She is on Prednisone to help shrink the lymph nodes. :( Loosing a pet is so hard. I have a 15 year old and a 12 year old and they are devastated as are we about this poor prognosis. Sending you some love. My heart goes out to you and your daughter and her family.

OP here to say thanks. - This has been hard.

I went back over there last night to support everyone. All of you are so kind, I just wanted to share one more thing. I told my just-turned 4-yo granddaughter that I was so sorry about Kaiser. She said, "He got very sick and had to go to the vet, and now he has to stay there." I looked at my 8-yo grandson, and he said, "Please don't tell her that is not right. We tried to explain it to her and she just doesn't understand." I said okay. My heart broke for him, and I was very proud of him at the same time. Where did my baby boy go?

We went in the kitchen and I asked him if he wanted to talk about it, and he said, "No, I don't. I came home and got out Kaiser's bowl to give him fresh water (one of his daily chores after school), and Mom had to remind me that he wasn't here anymore. I don't think we had a very good vet either because that doctor gave him medicine and it did not help him at all." I knew better, but I did not say so. He became teary-eyed but did not cry. I did not try to get him to talk about it, because he already did as much as he could. I will wait a while.

My son-in-law started fixing dinner, and I went upstairs with my daughter and talked, looked at old puppy pictures, cried a little bit, laughed a little bit, and hugged a little bit.

You know, it is nice to know there are kind people like you, who understand how this kind of loss can affect someone, and especially children when it is their first exposure to death. I think they are going to wait until this summer when they go to a festival where there are always puppies up for adoption, and see what they kids say about it.

Thank you all again for the warm thoughts.

Heartbreaking. With the weather getting better, would planing a tree sm - acuteMLS

in honor of Kaiser be something he may want to do? What a wise child he is, to want to protect his sister from knowing Kaiser is gone.

Your post made me cry, it is touching that you have a grandson who is so caring.

I am sad for you, too - Old Pro

10 Reasons Why Flu Shots Are More Dangerous Than A Flu! (just Sharing Not Debating)Nov 29, 2011
The verdict is out on flu shots. Many medical experts now agree it is more important to protect yourself and your family from the flu vaccine than the flu itself. Let’s take a look at the reasons behind this verdict: 1.) There is a total lack of real evidence that young children even benefit from flu shots. A systematic review of 51 studies involving 260,000 children age 6 to 23 months found no evidence that the flu vaccine is any more effective than a placebo. Also the shots a ...
