Saudi Arabia strikes Yemen. sm

Posted: Mar 26, 2015

Houthi warn of "wide war". Warplanes from Saudi Arabia and Arab allies struck Shi'ite Muslim rebels fighting to oust Yemen's president on Thursday, a gamble by the world's top oil exporter to check Iranian influence in its backyard without direct military backing from Washington. Riyadh's rival Iran denounced the assault on the Houthi militia group, which it backs, and made clear the kingdom's deployment of a Sunni coalition against Shi'ite enemies would complicate efforts to end a conflict likely to inflame the sectarian animosities fuelling wars around the Middle East. Warplanes bombed the main airport and the nearby al Dulaimi military air base of the Houthi-held capital Sanaa, residents said, in an apparent attempt to weaken the Houthis' air power and ability to fire missiles.;

I guess BO didn't have the TV news on the day Yemen started going down the tubes. Gee, you'd think there would be a TV attached to his golf cart with the technology out there these days.

by the time all this is over, they will probably no longer be our allies. Obama will make sure of it.

King Abdullah Of Saudi Arabia DiesJan 23, 2015
Successors were already in place, even 2 chosen.  Seems they have had a bit of trouble keeping successors alive long enough.  King Salman is 79.  King Abdullah died at 90.  Long-living.  Interesting time with Yemen blowing up on the southern border.  SA supported the regime in Yemen until the opposition was allowed to take too strong a foothold, then they cut their funding.  There is apparently a wall/fence being built on the southern border of SA between SA ...

Yemen's Handling Of Ex-Gitmo PrisonersNov 29, 2009
ADEN, YEMEN -- Two years ago, Mohsin al-Askari was released from his prison cell at Guantanamo Bay, but he has found neither freedom nor a new life in his homeland. Potential employers are afraid to hire him. At 28, he depends on his father for financial support, charities for medical care. With each rejection, his frustration grows, as does the temptation to return to his old life of jihad. "The government hasn't done anything to help me," said Askari, his voice filled with bitterness. ...

Senator Lieberman Calls For 'preemptive' Attack On YemenDec 28, 2009
(I personally think this is crazy talk. Al Qaeda is in a LOT of countries, probably including the USA. Does that mean we should launch a "preemptive attack" on ourselves? War mongers cry poor when it comes to healthcare for Americans, but they always seem to have enough money for wars. I have to wonder if any of this has to do with Lieberman having dual citizenship with Israel, and I wonder where his loyalty truly lies.) By Stephen C. US, Iran Support For Dueling Sides In Yemen Raises Prospect Of Proxy FightApr 08, 2015
Intervention by the U.S. and Iran in Yemen is raising the prospect of a proxy war even as the Obama administration tries to reach a nuclear deal with the Islamic Republic – with Iran sending two ships to waters near Yemen, as the U.S. speeds up military aid to the Saudi-led coalition striking Tehran-backed rebels there.  Iran's English-language state broadcaster Press TV quoted Rear Adm. Habibollah Sayyari as saying the ships, dispatched for the Gulf of Aden, would be part of an ...

Federal Court Strikes Down Texas Voter ID LawAug 30, 2012
It was the state's second major loss in court in three days, coming after a separate federal panel ruled Tuesday that Texas' Republican-dominated Legislature failed to avoid "discriminatory purposes" when drawing new maps for congressional districts and both houses of the state Legislature to reflect the Texas' booming population. A report by the Brennan Center for Justice, a nonpartisan legal think tank in New York, determined that new voting restrictions could suppress the vote ...
