DHS did something right today.

Posted: Mar 3, 2015

Supposedly, DHS shut down 20 of these birth tourist homes, all in California. It costs up to $50K for the Chinese mothers-to-be to come and stay here, having their babies in a regular hospital, and then go home.

The
Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution grants automatic citizenship to everyone born in the United States. It was intended to ensure that freed slaves would be able to claim citizenship they rightly deserved. Today, however, some creative "birth tourists" are taking advantage of the Fourteenth Amendment to give birth to a U.S. citizen, return to their home country, and proceed to utilize all of the advantages that accompany U.S. citizenship, like access to colleges and universities via the domestic applicants pool. According toCNN Money, the number of people coming to the U.S. each year simply to give birth to a citizen and leave has doubled in the last four years and shows no sign of slowing down.

From CNN Money:
A booming birth tourism industry has sprouted from coast to coast to cater to growing interest -- in 2012, about 10,000 Chinese women gave birth in the U.S., more than double the 4,200 in 2008, according to Chinese state media.

My question is: Should the 14th Amendment be amended or should there be stricture rules and regulations on births by foreigners?

Amending the Constitution would take an Act of Congress. - sm

The idiots in charge of the House and Senate can't even agree on funding our government so not sure why they could agree to verbiage to change a law adopted in 1868.

Fact: Not going to happen anytime soon.

Oh, that's something I never heard of. They already overpopulated their own country, now they are bringing their babies here to give up for adoption. That's great if there are enough people to adopt them. Do they leave the babies here or do they take them back to China?

It's not like China is just on the border like Mexico and all they have to do is walk over. They have to fly thousands of miles for this.

they are wealthy Chinese - ripped off again

the kids go home as American citizens. The family anticipates returning to the US in the future with their American citizens for future bennies and to get out of crappy China.

And! the women posed as indigent so the hospitals and taxpayers foot the bill. I hear the IRS is involved along with DHS, FBI. Send those scammers the bills!

The story I watched said they all paid - $40-50G to give birth here

If they have that kind of money to come here to the luxury birthing hospitals set up for them, they can pay for their own birth, thank you very much.

They are not giving up the babies for adoption, they specifically come here on false tourist visas (which do not state they are even pregnant) so their babies can get US passports by virtue of being born here, and that is why they pay so much for the privilege.

The idea they get away with crying poor for the cost of the birth makes my blood boil.

How Much Is Your Gas Today?Jan 07, 2011
A while back I posted a message that the oil commodity prices were going up and the last time oil was about $90, gas went to over $4.00.  Do you think there is less oil out there? The last time gas prices increased that much, oil companies reported record profits and Bush was president.  Hmmm.  Republicans have the House.  I think I will go buy some oil stock. ...

I cannot believe it. I had hardly any pain yesterday except after the drops were put in and today I can see to read quite a lot, not fine print, but can read this board and some other things. The colors are so bright and the white is so white and bright. I feel like I have new eyes. Thanks so much for praying all of you. BTW, they had to delay surgery for me and the first patient because something was wrong on the light. They finally got that fixed and I was only 20 minutes late going ...

I Got A Cat TodayJan 21, 2016
Believe it or not, I got a wonderful cat at a shelter today! He is a gorgeous black cat, looks like a little panther, and is incredibly affectionate and good natured. He had been there quite a while because the shelter people said they have such a hard time placing black cats! He is a love (and my third black cat), and I am so glad that a friend of mine suggested I take a black cat! So, no Savannah cat, no pit, no Rottie, just a wonderful and loving black cat! He is a very peaceful creature ...

Wow! What A Speech By O TodayJan 07, 2010
I'm surprised no one on this board commented on it yet. I watched it and he seems pretty pi$$ed. I just hope he really means what he said this time. As he said, it is his responsibility. Maybe now he will stop blaming the former administration and focus on being a president instead of a puppet. The only problem I see is that talk is cheap. Implementation of what his plans are for the terrorist problem has yet to be seen. I did miss the press conference between Homeland Security ...

Wow, Today Is The Day For GiftsDec 16, 2010
So first I got a fruit basket delivered today from one of my accounts.  Very nice.  Then I got my mail and there was a X-mas card from our next door neighbor. They are retired, in their 80s, and live in Florida for the winter.  Since we live in an area that has plenty of snow, we (usually me) shovel or snowblow their sidewalk whenever needed.  In the past they have always sent a X-mas card with a check for my husband for doing the snowblowing, I think usually about $50.  ...

Got the car fixed - several things wrong with it - so hopefully fingers crossed it will make it through the winter.  The whole winter.  And there's another car here, so if worse came to worst, I could take that. Moral of the story - a big stress is when "worse comes to worst" is on the horizon, and you have to live with that possibility day in and day out.  So one aspect of that is gone. Bought a nice velveteen-ish jacket at Salvation Army - eight dollars - it is pitiful wh ...
