Having a hard time

Sitting here at my desk crying. Can't believe how in the last 3-4 years my income has dropped. Barely making it. Wondering how I will come up with money to pay rent the first of the month.
Have medical bills (not even totalling $500). Called hospital to work out financiall help. Went to the expense of copying and mailing them required paperwork. Then, they tell me they don't give help for bills under $500. Why not tell me that BEFORE i spend the money?
Good thing I have food in the freezer. Can't turn off my electricity yet cuz it is below zero here.
Been looking for jobs but nothing. Had a few interviews but no further. Thnking my age of being in my 50s is hurting me. I have done jobs in the past I did not like just to pay bills so not afraid to do it again. Job market in my area sucks.
Hard to work admist tears. Dreading getting up in the morning. My friends, I am sure, are sick of my cojmplaining of my problems. I wish I had completed college and maybe now I would not have been in this mess. ARGH! I am estranged from my family so there is no support there.

[ In Reply To ..]Dr just called and wants me to schedule an ppt. I am a diabetic and need a followup. Told them I have insurance but I cannot afford to pay to come and see them or to take medicine. I know I am playing a dangerous game but what choice do I have? Tried in the past to get help with drugs but find I make too much to quallify. It sucks to know that you have worked since you were 15 and have nothing to show for it and no help available.
Time to get off the pity pot. I am nobody special and everyone else has problems as well. what will be will be.

[ In Reply To ..]Hubby was diabetic for awhile & we spent a long time broke. It can get real expensive. My best suggestion is to eat as healthy as you can, get enough sleep & exercise, do as much good for yourself as possible. If you know anyone diabetic, maybe do a random sugar sometimes to make sure you're not going too high. Sometimes, drug companies can/will help. We didn't go that route, but maybe you can.

[ In Reply To ..]Do you sew? If you do, you can take on mending jobs or make things to sell. I did that on the side for awhile & got so many mending jobs that it was enough to cover some of the bills. I'd do it in the evening after work. I've also done "paid favors" for neighbors when they had too much to do & I had time. They knew I couldn't do some of these things for free, so they'd pay me. It was a win/win for both sides. I hope there's something in your neighborhood you can do. Even babysitting can help. All these things are quick money, maybe not something you can count on long-term, but the money is quick & you'd be surprised at how fast it can add up. We got down to $2 in the bank once & had to get creative real quick on paying bills. I paid part of a dental bill once by knitting hats for him when we lived up north. Keep your chin up. Whatever you do as a hobby can sometimes be turned into income. :)

[ In Reply To ..]I'm glad you're looking at options. I've had to sell things too & it can be really hard to sell things you thought you could keep forever. When my husband got sick, there was a real chance he wouldn't make it. He needed super-expensive surgery, so I sold everything I could. He still complains sometimes that he doesn't have certain things anymore, but I sold my things too, not just his, & at the time it was better to keep a roof over our heads than have stuff that might never get used again. He used to be a mechanic & had brain surgery. I sold most of his tools. When you need to pay bills, you sell what someone is willing to buy. I sold most of my books (a few hundred), most of my jewelry, furniture, etc. Got us a cheaper place to live after he recovered from surgery. Things worked out real well for awhile. We're facing another problem, so looking at selling things again. This time, there's not as much, but it'll be easier to move to a cheaper place this time. Keep in touch with the folks here. It's a good support group. I've learned a lot of "can do" from people here.

I've spent plenty crying, sleepless nights lately (which doesn't make me very productive the following day.. not that there's work waiting for me anyway). Me and my kids are renting a place that has now gone into foreclosure. Trying to get money together to move, though it's hard on minimum wage.
