Wondering about our MTs in the blizzard areas.

Posted: Jan 27, 2015

How are you guys in the northeast doing?  I hope you haven't lost electricity!  It looks Massachusetts and Rhode Island are getting the worst of the storm.

blizzard - ssss

I live in Boston and have had no issues with internet but some of my accounts are local (MRI Centers) which were closed. My other accounts are in Florida and Kansas which had the usual amounts of work, of course. My biggest fear was electricity/internet outage but so far, so good. Haven't ventured outside my door, though. It looks very pretty from the inside looking out!!

hard time working - hope

I had a very hard time working because of all the noise from my neighbors' snow blowers.

How we are doing - in Connecticut

[ In Reply To ..]
We are fine. Yes there is a lot of snow. No we have not lost power. Plows come through. Nothing unusual about this.

Why all the hoopla I don't understand. We have blizzards all the time. Maybe not every single year, but every year we always end up with 7 or 8 feet of snow. Ever since I was a little girl we have had blizzards. You know when they are coming so you prepare ahead of time and stay hunkered down.

Now if this was Arizona or New Mexico and there was a blizzard then yes, that would be unusual, but snow storms and blizzards are nothing out here.

Wow. Forgive me for caring. - I'm the OP

Apparently, I've offended you in Connecticut by asking how my fellow MTs there are doing. The other responders were kind and seemed appreciative that others were thinking of them. Perhaps you should have just ignored my post and saved yourself some aggravation.

That's okay, nothing to forgive. You didn't offend me - in Connecticut

I just read all the different messages and people are acting like this has never happened before. It's not like a tornado came through or a huge fire or something horrific like that. Just our usual yearly winter storms. We get it every year, but the way some of the posts are written (and I'm not saying yours), but some people act like we've never had snow before.

Nothing new for us, just another usual winter here. We're all okay, thanks.

same here in Chicago, much too much hype - for something that happens every year

They were actually running those snow advisory things on TV 2-3 days before it began to snow!

Snow - NYMT

[ In Reply To ..]

Thanks for caring.  I'm out on Eastern Long Island and we have 24 inches, and supposedly more to come tonight, but New Yorkers are troopers for the most part.

I'm from NY too - NYMT2

I'm from Upstate NY and we have a joke that floats around here every winter. It goes: 95% of people scream when they're sliding into a ditch in a snowstorm. The other 5% are from New York and they say, "Here, hold my coffee."

Gay Teen Suicides (And Straight) More Common In Politically Conservative AreasApr 18, 2011
By LINDSEY TANNER 04/18/11 06:28 AM ET CHICAGO -- Suicide attempts by gay teens – and even straight kids – are more common in politically conservative areas where schools don't have programs supporting gay rights, a study involving nearly 32,000 high school students found. Those factors raised the odds and were a substantial influence on suicide attempts even when known risk contributors like depression and being bul ...

OMG! Hope Those Of You Living In The "Sandy" Areas Will Be OkayNov 07, 2012
Stay safe. Watching Weather Channel and it's snowing like crazy in Point Pleasant, NJ. Nor'easter has hit with snow and wind. How much more can they take? So far, we're lucky here. Nothing going on. We still had over 4,000 homes without electric on Monday from Sandy. We'll be getting the NE winds and whatever comes with it later. ...

I Am Wondering If Anyone Here Has Gone Through What I Am Going ThroughAug 26, 2015
I am being alienated from my son by his horrible father.  Divorced him 10 years ago and he has been pulling stunts since.  I am just devastated of course.  It has been almost a full year.  If anyone here has gone through that, how do you cope with each day?  I have PTSD anyway, but if I did not have it before, I sure would now.  And before anyone gives advice on what to do, believe me they have all been done to death.   ...

I Was Wondering (maybe More Worried)Apr 21, 2010
My father passed away this past week, he took his own life.  He was 75 years old and in bad physical shape and constant pain. His nightmare was that he would be put into a nursing home. He was a fiercely independent man living alone and was at the point of not being able to care for himself. He led a good life and was a very generous man with many friends. I am wondering about suicide in this case, what do you all think about what is going to happen to his Soul?  I really hav ...

Wondering If Anyone Else Has Had This ExperienceJul 21, 2012
I recently said on another board I was glad I did not have any friends because no one can say do it for the kids.  Well, when I talk about my anxiety and depression, I get very sick and tired of people saying it is because I do not have enough faith.  Believe me, I do.  Or I did anyway.  I have asked to be filled with the holy spirit.  I have begged for a miracle.  Not sure what else to do, but it is CHEMICAL.  Has nothing to do with faith.   Off soapbox ...

I think the Travan Martin case was tragic.  It evoked enormous response, even from the POTUS, but where the heck is the outrage regarding the 88-year-old WW II white veteran who was pulled from his car and beaten to death by two 16-year-old black kids?  Just where is it?  This man fought and was injured in Iwo Jima for God's sake, gave years for his Country, and we hear nothing?  That is sick.  I'd just like to see some reaction from somebody. ...

I Am Really Wondering About Trump's HealthSep 02, 2016
I saw him on TV and he looks so puffy!  Looks like he is having major PMS--you know--the shiny bags under the eyes and bloated face.  His family doctor, who is a gastroenterologist (who has a gastroenterologist for PCP?) said he is on statin and aspirin.  That would indicate cardiovascular problems, maybe congestive heart failure.   They say he woud be the oldest inaugurated president if elected.  Maybe his volatile emotions are tied to his age and physical condition? & ...

I Was Wondering What Phobias People Have. May 26, 2010
I just learned that I have a pretty severe bird phobia.  I knew I didn't "like" birds because as a child, I was chased around my house by a bird who was protecting her baby.  Ever since that, I never liked being close to birds or if a bird like flew above my head, I cringed and got nervous.  The other evening, the hubs and I were sitting watching TV.  All of a sudden, a bird came down our chimney and out our fireplace, and started flying wildly all over the living room.& ...

Just Wondering. Why Does Mainstream Press Choose To Sep 15, 2012
I mean, the man is half white, half black - so to regard him as being black is nothing BUT a choice, right?  Pick one from column A or one from column B - it's your CHOICE.  It is NOT factual to call Obama black, or to call him white for that matter.  But it does seem passing strange that no one in the press regards Obama as white.  Just by the laws of probability, you would expect that some would call him white and some would call him black.  I mean, if I showed 1 ...

I've Been Wondering About The Conspiracy Theory Mindset.Feb 06, 2013
And found some interesting info from a fairly recent study about it. Belief in Conspiracies Linked to Machiavellian Mindset Know any conspiracy theorists? No doubt they’ve tried to convince you that man didn’t really land on the moon or President Obama was born in Kenya. In fact, they were imparting genuinely interesting information — about themselves. New research suggests belief in such theories may reveal a Machiavellian mindset. “At least ...

I Was Wondering What David Letterman ThoughtApr 01, 2015
Hoosiers are extremely proud, aren't they? By all accounts they have a lot to be proud of. Interesting that the response of famous Hoosiers to the gay discrimination law in Indiana has been almost exclusively that of horror of the direction Indiana is being steered and almost without exception condemnation of Governor Pence and his defense of this indefensible law. I enjoyed this clip from Letterman. "This is not the Indiana I remember as a kid," Letterman told the audience. "I lived th ...
