OMG. Did Michelle really say this at a naturalization ceremony? (sm)

Posted: Dec 19, 2014

Yes, she really, really did.  You can check out Snopes if you like and see how they spin it, (they tell you what she really MEANT)  but this is what the woman SAID.   She should be ashamed of herself.  I'm ashamed.

Harvard educated First Lady Michelle Obama reminded attendees of a naturalization ceremony Wednesday that the Founding Fathers weren't born in America. The ceremony for 50 new U.S. citizens was held at the  National Archives in Washington, D.C.  She said during her speech, referring to the Declaration of Independence, "It's amazing that just a few feet
from here where I'm standing are the signatures of the 56 Founders who put their names on a Declaration  that changed the course of history, and like the 50 of you, none of them were born American - they became  American."

Excuse me?  Did she actually mean that those who signed the Declaration of Independence and participated
in the drafting of the Constitution were not born in America?   Benjamin Franklin was born in Pennsylvania and  Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and James Madison were born in Virginia.  John Adams was born in Massachusetts.  Only eight of the 56 were not born in America.  Surely she knew this. But, then again, maybe not.   After all, she is a Harvard graduate. Isn't she?

Then we freed the slaves, gave women the right to vote, and welcomed immigrants from afar (mostly WOPs, With Out Papers) with "Lady Liberty" lighting their way into New York harbor. All proud moments in our history, all were dreamers.
No, they were Americans with a vision for the country - Poopouri
[ In Reply To ..]
Much different than the term Dreamers, which is a shame because now Dreamers mean con artists trying to make a pile of cow dung smell like a bed of roses.

The founding fathers, born in this country comprised of the 13 American colonies had a vision on where they wanted the country to go.

It does not matter what Michelle and others want to believe. The simple fact is the founding fathers were born in America, not overseas.

Here are some answers to the question regarding where the founding fathers born.

First answer came from DH (an American History buff). I said to him "were the founding fathers born in America". He had not heard about MO's talk. His response was "did you not pay attention in history classes? Of course they were born in this country". I told him get a load of the news, Mo is telling people they were not born in this country. His response was "well there you go, what do you expect from her".

Another answer - "Why don't you pick of a history book, one that hasn't been distorted by liberals. All but eight were born in the U.S."

Most of the 1787 delegates were natives of the Thirteen Colonies. Only 9 were born elsewhere: four (Butler, Fitzsimons, McHenry, and Paterson) in Ireland, two (Davie and Robert Morris) in England, two (Wilson and Witherspoon) in Scotland, and one (Hamilton) in the West Indies.

This is the best answer:

"It is a semantical argument. Even though the leadership and government changed and it officially became the United States of America on 1776, the people, culture, and land did not. For example, before 1776, it was the English colony of Virginia, and ruled by the crown. After 1776, it was the state of Virginia, part of the United States of America, governed by representatives. From most people's perspective if you were born in Virginia, as Washington and Jefferson were when it was still ruled by the English Crown, you were still born into the culture and land of the USA, even if it was not officially the US yet.

So even though it is a trick question, I am going to give people a pass on this one. The founding fathers were born in the USA, even though it was not officially called that when they were born."

What she said is that they BECAME Americans. And that is the truth. They were born in British colonies and went on to create the United States of America. We do not have a homeland. We colonized the homeland of native Americans, as can be seen in state names like Massachusetts, Connecticut, Minnesota, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and many, many more.

However, Michelle Obama did not, as claimed in the example quoted above, state that the Founding Fathers were not "born in America," nor did she express ignorance of the fact that many of the Founding Fathers were indeed born in the thirteen British North American colonies that later formed the original United States of America.

The First Lady said, in reference to the Founding Fathers, that "none of them were born American; they became American," and in its original context (i.e., a naturalization ceremony), the meaning of that statement was perfectly clear. What Michelle Obama was communicating on that occasion was that the Founding Fathers were not born into a fully formed and established America with its own history, customs, culture, and values, as modern American children are; they were born into a very different world as British subjects in a colonial empire, and they chose to seek new opportunities and lives for themselves by transforming their world into something distinctive (through the establishment of a new nation) — just as modern immigrants born outside America choose to transform their worlds by opting to leave their homelands for the United States and seek new lives through becoming Americans.

Canadians are not welcoming foreigners - Gee wonder why

[ In Reply To ..]
Do you hear any other country in the world inviting Americans to their soil? How about Canadians or Europeans?

I did not think so.

Don't show up without any money or without a job or family member ready to cover the expense of your existence if you do show up in other countries to establish a life.

This "everything in America is the world's because...well just because you deserve to reap the rewards for their 3 prior generations creating a sustainable and civilized society.

America is being bled dry - 18 trillion worth. Did you know if you spent 1 million dollars a day since the day Jesus was born, you'd still not have spent a trillion dollars.

And the Americans who are proud of seeing their country bled dry by an agenda that does creates war, death and destruction on foreign soil should prepare to reap what you sow.

This is a covert Americans and you are losing. A tax debt will be placed on your back just as it has in other nations. It is just a matter of time.

Turning the world against Americans, after their doors were opened to refugees for decades, on tax dollars, is underway and the propaganda is being spread by Americans themselves. Ridiculous and tragic all at the same time.

Enjoy slavery!

Some people are not allowed to come to Canada. They are known as “inadmissible” under Canada’s immigration law.

There are many reasons we may not let you into Canada, such as:

you are a security risk,
you have committed human or international rights violations,
you have been convicted of a crime, or you have committed an act outside Canada that would be a crime,
you have ties to organized crime,
you have a serious health problem,
you have a serious financial problem,
you lied in your application or in an interview,
you do not meet the conditions in Canada’s immigration law, or
one of your family members is not allowed into Canada.

Where did you read that? Canada has never been vey welcoming - Unless as the poster above said

You have money and plan to boost their economy.

I have cousins who live in Canada. Was thinking about moving to Canada. Have you ever seen the paperwork and requirements to emigrate to Canada? It's not that easy or welcoming. They have strict rules. if you don't follow them they don't welcome you.

That's probably why its a great country.

I would say they were born American. - Truthhurts

[ In Reply To ..]
After all, North, Central, and South America were already named AMERICA in 1502, so anyone born in those three countries would be considered to be a "born American."

If it were not the case, then you would have to call Native Americans something else. They couldn't be considered Native Americans, if you want to get picky about it. :)

It doesn't matter whether or not its true. Maybe her being so ignorant on facts and telling them this they will actually believe her, after all the only thing that is important is that they feel good. Doesn't matter what the facts are. Then of course unfortunately there are people who will actually believe this. Sad that she is part of the process of dumbing down Americans.

Before the Declaration of Independence America was the 13 American Colonies. Most people don't know we were called the American Colonies. They only know it as the Colonies. Either way, the founding fathers were still born in this Country. Not what her majesty is trying to pawn off on everyone.

The founding fathers were in fact born in this country. It doesn't matter whether they were called colonies or The United States. It was still this country (America). Not foreign soil.

Her majesty and many others would do well with a history refresher course. But then again that's what you get for a Harvard edjookashun.

Think you misunderstand the comment - iveseenitall

I see it as meaning that all of us born in America only become American by participating in the process, by being involved. by investing something of ourselves.
