What will be deleted.

Posted: Oct 27, 2014

After the voting post went bust, I decided to take the best suggestions from those that contributed and that's what we're going with.

It seemed pretty unanimous that you have to have a "thick skin" to come to this board and most posters were okay with tpub and commie staying - even though everyone disagrees on the equality of both words.  I'll allow both to stay as long as they're not being used as direct insults to specific posters - those will be deleted, as well as any other direct insult, including tbag, teabagger, retarded, stupid, uneducated, low information, etc. or if you tell a certain poster to get a clue, get a grip, get an education, take a Xanax, etc.  Do not make jokes at another poster's expense, making fun of something they've said in a prevoius post.  There will also be no comparing either party to terrorist groups and there will be no calling anyone's patriotism into question.  There will also be no - NO - accusations of racism.  I don't care if you think you know the buzz words or dog whistles, I will delete anyone that starts throwing racism around this board.  If there is no political content to your post or if it's simply name-calling, it will be deleted - contribute to the conversation or get off the board.  Rules on the sticky notes at the top of the page also still stand.  Habitual offenders will be banned.

We're all supposedly adults here - let's please start carrying on conversations like them.

You have a thankless job, Moderator. I think all of your points are sensible.

Excellent! - Mrs. Tingles

Looks like you took a lot of posters suggestions into consideration and are following their wishes and common sense.

I think your post is well thought out and appreciate that you included all of us in your decision making.

Maybe the board will be a better place to come to. Many of us just want to talk politics. Hopefully that will be achieved now.

Thanks again Moderator - like the other poster said - it's a thankless job. I give you credit for trying to keep the board clean.

Regarding "no accusations of racism" - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I hope this doesn't mean that we will be condoning racist rhetoric, but prohibiting discussion of same. Does "throwing racism" around the board refer to everyone, or just the poster who questions a remark?

Will questions regarding racism be allowed, or will these be considered "accusations?"

Thanks.

It sounds like she/he means false accusations; like when (sm) - me

someone is called a racist for making a post regarding the person's place of birth, (country) as happened yesterday. (I'm guessing, of course). The "country" in question was just that, was not a race but the poster was accused of being one.

I didn't see that post - sm

I don't know what was said, so I can't comment. If we can't inquire about or respond to racism without being accused of making racist accusations, it might be a little hard to navigate this slippery slope.
OP still on the board, but the R comments deleted. - Nm

If someone posts and obvious racist comment... - Moderator

[ In Reply To ..]
It will be deleted, so no response will be necessary. You can discuss race relations as they have to do with politics (this does not include Ferguson). For example, if someone posts something about Obama, don't call them racist. Now, if the poster calls him a nappy-headed, uppity so-and-so, again, no need to respond - this will be deleted.

I have never felt that obvious racist comments are the problem - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Rather, it is the subtle remark couched within a post that is often the problem. It kind of sounds like you're saying that we posters should not ever question the possibility - or hallmarks - of racism.

I can't imagine what would be so scary or dangerous that we must delete posts that question bigotry. If the questioner is wrong, let the record show it. Right or wrong, however, posters should be able to respond to ideas and remarks advanced on this board.

Accountability begins with our ability to respond to questions. We shouldn't have to scrub the board every time someone poses a question that makes others accountable.

We shouldn't have to be fearful that rebuttal is so virulent it must be quarantined.
Accusations of racism seem to run rampant on this board - Moderator
[ In Reply To ..]
It seems that anytime a post about Obama or Sharpton or any other African-American is made that is in any way negative, someone inevitably calls it racist. Posters should be able to express their opinions about policy, etc without being labeled a racist. For example, I've seen people posting about taking the country back. This means from the democrats, not from the "black man in the WH."

Rebuttal is not virulent, false accusations are.
Any time? In any way? Inevitably? - sm

That's quite an exaggeration. Negative things are said about Obama on a daily basis here. The overwhelming majority of the time, accusations are not made.

I'm just trying to get a fix on what's okay and what's not. It sounds like posters are NOT to mention even the possibility of racism. If our opinions are not allowed in these cases, please say so.
It's not an exaggeration. - sm

I posted a comment several days ago about what's happening to "our" country. Meaning yours and mine, everyone, every American. I was accused of meaning just a certain sector of America. To be honest, my mind never even went there. I don't think that way. I think most people here are not racist, yet we are accused of it almost daily because what we post doesn't fit with the liberal/progressive/commie agenda. I agree with the moderator's decision 100%.
But... there you go again. You just called - democrats "commie".
[ In Reply To ..]
To my eye there is a HUGE double standard here.
Dem/Progressive/Commie - it's all pretty much the same. (sm) - LM

Didn't you ever hear the expression, "It's not you parents' Democratic party
anymore. " ? It's been overrun.
no, actually, it's not - sm

I am proud of our democracy. The world admires our democracy. If democrats are communists, what did we have a cold war for?

Oops, I forgot about that, and the fact that it's - not okay to call Pubs TPubs/Teabaggers.

I keep forgetting the double rules that depend upon which way you are leaning, and that it's all pretty much a one-way discussion now. Don't believe it? Look at how the threads have been running for the past day or two.
I posted about it not being an exaggeration. - sm

My post did not call anyone individually a commie. My post said this:

"I think most people here are not racist, yet we are accused of it almost daily because what we post doesn't fit with the liberal/progressive/commie agenda."

That is not an attack on any one person.
mod, I'm honestly hoping for an answer - sm

I think my request is valid: I want to get a fix on what's okay and what's not. From your description, it sounds like we are not to opine regarding potentially bigoted rhetoric.

If our opinions are not allowed in these cases, please say so.

Okay, - Moderator
[ In Reply To ..]
Your opinions are not allowed in these cases.
Wow. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Are you referring to my opinions specifically, or the opinions of all posters?

I, for one, cannot imagine what is so scary or threatening about speaking out about racism or bigotry that you would need to protect people from it.

So, essentially, anyone who cares to make race-related or bigoted remarks about other nationalities or races is free to do so, and we should all accept that as business as usual?

Congratulations to you for condoning - and even promoting - a bully environment where some are allowed to be abusive and others just have to shut up.
Congratulations on twisting my words. - Moderator

I believe I did say that anyone making racist comments would be deleted - and most likely banned. However, there have been far too many incidents on this board where someone has shared their opinion about African-Americans, making absolutely no comments about race, and they've been hit hard with posts about being racist - if you don't like Obama, it's because you're racist - if you call it our country, you mean white American and you're racist. That garbage is going to stop now.

And no one on this board has to accept any of the conditions I put forth - no one's forcing to you to come here. I know for a fact that there are plenty of other political sites where you can bash the left, the right, and the in-between with no moderation of any kind.
I did not twist your words. - sm

I noted: "it sounds like we are not to opine regarding potentially bigoted rhetoric. If our opinions are not allowed in these cases, please say so."

Your response: "Your opinions are not allowed in these cases."

I have never thought that people who dislike Obama dislike him because they are racist, nor have I ever posted anything to that effect.

Plenty of posters dislike Obama. Most of the time, race doesn't even enter into the debate. The "garbage" you refer to isn't *my* garbage.
And I was not accusing *you* - Moderator
[ In Reply To ..]
But there are plenty of others that have made those accusations, so we all have to play by the same rules. Again, if you feel this is unfair or something you cannot tolerate, there are many other boards for you to visit.
Hey now - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
You have spent more time talking about accusations of racism than racism itself.

You have affirmed that we are not to opine regarding potentially bigoted rhetoric.

I'm hoping you'll understand that I am not talking about garbage.
A funny thing about false accusations - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Asking someone to be accountable for their viewpoint is not an accusation of any kind.

If someone thinks something is racist and says so, why not let a debate ensue?

Do false accusations include being called a communist because you support the president?

Food for thought.

Do you people who frequent this politics board know how lucky you are to be able to express your thoughts on politics?  Not mentioning any names of the political MT forum where I usually hang, but if the kind of behavior that went on here, went on over there, there would be no one left to post.  Y'all act like a bunch of babies.  It is possible to disagree without insulting each other left and right just because of what party you are affiliated with, then running to the princ ...

I Have Deleted The PostAug 31, 2012
Not ONCE since I've come on this board have I hijacked anyone's thread, called anyone names, called any POLITICIAN an unkind name or treated anyone with less than courtesy and respect. I create posts that I think are interesting or will encourage an adult, respectful exchange of information.  And there was certainly nothing in this one to warrant the responses that ensued.  I don't engage in the flaming tactics and I would appreciate it if my posts weren't used for ...

I have just deleted an entire thread of a message talking about hate and racism directed towards one party.  I do not want to believe a poster posted just to get an argument going with name calling of the other side, but that is what the entire thread turned into. Whether or not you agree with the other party, please try and refrain from posting just so people can argue, call others racists, haters, biggots, and try and "teach the other side a lesson". Has Anyone Here Permanently Deleted Their FB Account?Jan 07, 2015
I'm thinking of deleting my account.  This isn't due to any kind of drama or anything like that.  I only use my facebook to communicate with family and a few friends in other states and to share pictures and updates about our kids and family.  I'm sure part of me will miss that, but I am considering deleting it.  I often go to it expecting to spend 10 minutes at most, and an hour goes by.  Any advice?  Thanks in advance! :) ...
