Obama's Still Got It

Posted: Oct 21, 2014

On Sunday, President Obama hit the campaign trail in Maryland and Illinois. The following is from Josh Lederman's report, Associated Press October 19, 2014 (the Associated Press--a legitimate news source) * * * Roughly 8,000 people packed a high school gymnasium — with more in an overflow crowd next-door — where Obama adopted his party's mantra for this election season by claiming the midterms would come down to one thing: "Who is going to fight for you?" "The Republican Party can keep telling you what they're against," Obama said, riffing off a long list: affordable health care, immigration reform, action on climate change, to name a few. "But the good news is Democrats keep telling you what things we're for." * * * The New York Times reported about the same event: an immigration activist interrupted the speech, holding a sign demanding that “#Not1more” immigrant be deported. As the crowd bellowed the protester away, Mr. Obama suggested that he “should have been protesting the folks that are blocking” an immigration overhaul. * * * ;

as long as they are in good taste and are not personally insulting to any poster on the board - i.e. no "sheep" cartoons, anything making fun of anyone in the tea party, etc. However, this is a politics board, meant for discussing political issues, not posting tit-for-tat political cartoons, so tread carefully. If the board gets taken over by cartoons instead of conversation, we can easily ban all cartoons as well.

Fox falsehoods abound so just for fun I collected a few, mostly from newspaper fact checkers and a few from Americablog. The final few are some real doozies:

Pete Hegseth 05/26/14 on Outnumbered: Redskins is used historically as a term of respect. False.

George Will 05/11/14 on Fox News Sunday: The incandescent light bulb has no effect whatever on the planet. False.

Wayne Rogers 05/03/14 on Cashin’ In: There are over 200 documented cases where Obama has lied. Pants on Fire.

Andrew Napolitano 04/23/14 on Hannity: The Constitution simply does not authorize the federal government to own any of this land (in the Western states). Pants on Fire

Todd Starnes 04/17/14 on Hannity: Liberals have figured out a Facebook algorithm and all the people getting banned from Facebook are somehow conservatives. False.

Dick Morris 04/07/14 on Hannity: A North Carolina study proves that probably over a million people voted twice in (the 2012) election. False.

Ann Coulter 02/02/14 on Fox & Friends: A friend’s sister died from Obamacare because Blue Shield completely just pulled out of California. Pants on Fire.

Brian Kilmeade 01/21/14 on Fox and Friends: Colorado food stamp recipients can use ATMs to get cash to buy marijuana. False.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck 11/13/13 Fox and Friends: A Census Bureau worker says he was told to skew information to bring the unemployment rate down "as we headed into an election season." False.

Glenn Beck 11/30/13 on Fox: Less than 10 percent of Obama's Cabinet appointees have any experience in the private sector. False.

Glenn Beck 10/12/09 on Fox: Forty-five percent of doctors "say they'll quit" if health care reform passes. False.

Glenn Beck 07/22/09 on Fox: John Holdren, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, has proposed forcing abortions and putting sterilants in the drinking water to control population. Pants on Fire.

Glenn Beck 06/10/09 on Fox: Why do we have automatic citizenship upon birth? We're the only country in the world that has it. False.

Fox News 12/2012: Fred Phelps Westboro Church is a “left Wing Cult.” A jaw dropper.

Fox News 03/2011: CNN reporters agreed to be used as human shields (LOL) to help Qaddafi resist a British attack. This was in the midst of that NewsCorp phone hacking scandal hearings. Probably needed to lash out somehow to release some steam.

Fox News 02/2013: Solar Energy only works in Germany since it’s a smaller country and gets more sun (LOLOLOLOL) than the US, which has a "sun belt" that spans the entire lower third of the nation. A failed attempt at comedy?

The Christian Science Monitor, which is not right leaning and, in fact, has been an independent and objective source for decades, begins its piece with a question:  Did attendees at a President Obama campaign event on Sunday leave early because Mr. Obama is unpopular?  They then launch into a thorough Doubting Thomas about reports coming out of "some corners of the SOCIAL media world," evidently not willing to credit the so-called sources with full media status.  It's part of the "buzz decoder" feature page.

It's pretty hysterically funny to listen to conservatives whine about "incorrect" information just because it doesn't match the fear and smear rhetoric they're hearing and reading from the right-wing propaganda circus. LOL

I don't get what the big deal is anyway because regardless of any of it, Obama is here to stay and has already won a second term. The election is over. He won. There's no re-do..... ever..... no matter what. Period.

Here's how - pssst there is no "period" for you to write - Way to go, NOT

[ In Reply To ..]
Period means the end. There is no "period". We will discuss this if we want to.

Number 1: "the Tpub blog-o-sphere echochamber has been pushing inaccurate accounts". Calling people "Tpub" is offensive, but then again you already knew that.

Number 2: There has been no "inaccurate accounts" that the OP seems to think there is.

Number 3: What the poster posted is in fact incorrect. People left because they are tired of his lies. Not because there was no seating.

Number 4: There is no "period". Stating period means the end, as in what the poster says stands and nothing else is to be stated. Guess what? There is plenty to be stated. For one thing everything written is in fact incorrect.

Number 5: Conservatives are not "whining", we are just trying to "set the record straight" since there is so much bull being doled out by the fringe left-wingers "propaganda circus". Funny how you described the left-wing to a "T". Propaganda circus.

Number 6: Nobody is discussing whether Obama is here or not or whether he stays or goes. Everyone knows they placed him back in position. We do keep up on the news ya know. That is not what is in question here.

Besides his little "whose going to fight for you" scam, well one thing the country knows is its not democrats. They stopped pretending they were fighting for us the day after Obama was sworn in the first time. Now they know that the democrats are just saying "* you" to them and have not done anything to help us.

So for someone to come here, sneaking the insult in at the end is, well insulting.
Very well said. - SM

I love everything you wrote. Thank you.
Here's how - pssst I can write "period" in my post if I want to. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Please, discuss this all you want. Write a few pages and discuss it for a few days. My post never once insinuated that you couldn't discuss it. My point was that there's no re-do election ever no matter what... period, and that is a fact. I am allowed to have an opinion on the politics board, and I am allowed to choose my own words for it.

Number 1: I don't use the term Tpub; I use the term conservative or right-wing. I am the person you responded to but not the OP. I don't think it is "offensive," though. I think it is short for Tea Party Republican or Tea-publican.

Number 2: I am not the OP, but I too have read conflicting accounts on several conservative, liberal, and just main stream media websites, and they can't all be correct.

Number 3: I'm sure people left for all sorts of reasons, but since different reporters from the same venue reported different things that contradict each other and since I wasn't there as an eyewitness, I will not pretend to actually know what people were actually thinking and automatically pick the account that fits my political fancy or worldview.

Number 4: There is a "period;" I know there is a period because I am the one that wrote it into my post. You don't get to decide what my "period" meant. My period was in relation to my statement that there will be no election re-do regardless... period.

Number 5: It sounds an awful lot like whining, in my opinion, and this post is adding more whining to all the previous whining.

Number 6: Yes, someone was discussing that; it was actually me.

Your last paragraph said, quote: Now they know that the democrats are just saying "* you" to them and have not done anything to help us.

This last paragraph is a straw man argument where you actually presume to know what the entire country is thinking and presume to somehow know what Democrats are saying to everyone, enough to even quote Democrats with an asterisk in place of profanity, even though you couldn't possibly ever know... period.
Nobody said you couldn't have an opinion, psssst - but when you write
[ In Reply To ..]
Period. End of story. That means you think you have the last word and nobody can say anymore. That is what that means.

Don't know about discussing this "for a few days". However, when someone writes "Period. End of story" that means discussion is over and I have the last word.

Number 1: I know you didn't say TPub, you asked what was offensive about the OPs post. I answered your question. No of course you wouldn't think that is offensive. I'm sure you wouldn't like to be called a communist or nazi, so why people think its okay to insult and call people a Tpub. Well there is no GOOD reason for that. Posters have said its offensive so others need to stop. Besides, not all republicans are tea party people (some are, but not all), just like not all democrats are communists (some are, but not all). Also, for the record, they are called the Tea party movement, and Tea party. The news reports them as a separate party. Different than the republican party. I'm sure you wouldn't like us to start writing the Community Democrat or ComDems. Here though the term is used as an inflammatory label in the hopes of insulting.

Number 2: This is why cross referencing needs to be done. When you can find the same information from different sources that confirms what a person writes that's one thing, but if only all conservatives post one thing and all democrat sites post another thing, to me that's not confirmation that something is right or wrong.

Number 3: People left once Obama arrived. Not before and not after. They left once he showed up. That's a huge negative statement about what people think of him. Like a bad movie. When people walk out of a bad movie it's a given that the movie was bad. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.

Number 4: Period. You don't know what is going to happen in the future. None of us know how the elections are going to go and none of us know if Obama will be impeached and if we will be voting for someone else. Now I'm not putting a "PERIOD!" there because none of us know. And I don't take it upon myself to decide when the conversation about that is over. PS - I can decide whatever I want to.

Number 5: Nope, no whining. Just bringing up facts and trying to set it straight. If you think that is whining, well I can say the same about the other side.

Number 6: No, nobody was discussing whether or not Obama was here or not or whether he stays or not. That was not part of the conversation. You decided to bring in something that was not being discussed to change the course of the conversation. Since that was not being discussed I'm not going to bring it up again. It's a mute point.

My last paragraph was written from reading source after source after source, polls, opinions, and hundreds of other sites. Sites written by people of all colors, ages, genders, and political affiliations. Don't need to "presume what the entire country is thinking", I just read their words. I know, I know, it's not what you want to hear, but nonetheless it is what everyone is writing about, so again I'll just leave it at that since anything else is a mute point.

Since profanity is not allowed here, yes you got the asterisk...period. :-)

Have a nice day now. Continue on if you wish. I am done with this conversation.

[ In Reply To ..]
You said: "Nobody said you couldn't have an opinion, psssst - but when you write Period. End of story. That means you think you have the last word and nobody can say anymore. That is what that means."

Maybe this is where the disconnect is, but I didn't write "period, end of story;" I wrote "period," and as I already said in my prior post, I wrote it in relation to my sentence "I don't get what the big deal is anyway because regardless of any of it, Obama is here to stay and has already won a second term. The election is over. He won. There's no re-do..... ever..... no matter what. Period."

That statement there is part opinion, and it is also a statement of fact. There indeed will be no election re-do. When someone insists on adding/quoting words in my post that were never there and defining meanings to my words that I didn't mean, then this is not exactly allowing me to have my opinion because someone is quite literally insisting that another interpretation of my opinion is what I meant.

Repeat: I never wrote the words "end of story;" those were added/quoted in your post, and then you decided what I meant by words I never wrote even though I had already explained what I meant by the words I actually did write. No, I did not edit my post; those words were never in it.

Number 1: Again, there is a disconnect here. No, I didn't ask what was offensive about the OP's post; I asked [quoting my post]: "The post very clearly states just want to set the record straight..." So how would that be "posting just to insult conservatives?" [end]

The poster clearly stated she just wanted to set the record straight, but she was accused of posting just to insult conservatives. Obviously, she posted to "set the record straight." Nowhere in my post do I ask what was offensive about the OP's post, not once anywhere. As far as the abbreviation for Tea Party/Republican, I will reiterate here that I do not use that term myself. As far as people calling me names, I couldn't give a hang what people call me. People are free to call me whatever they want, as it doesn't phase me one little bit. I know who I am, and people I don't know and who don't know me choosing to call me names doesn't bother me at all. I've got an extremely thick skin and couldn't care less.

Number 2: Your opinion.

Number 3: Your opinion.

Number 4: Yes, in this instance, I do know that the future holds no election re-do. There will never be an election again where Barack Obama is the Democratic presidential candidate and Mitt Romney is the Republican candidate in opposition to unseat Barack Obama. That ship has sailed, and there absolutely will be no re-do of that election. We know these things for certain because the protocol is written into the United States Constitution and the Amendments thereto. Should the scenario of Obama being impeached occur, we absolutely already do know that we won't be "voting for someone else," as suggested here. We know this because the US Constitution is clear as to exact protocol for the impeachment of the President of the United States. Should impeachment occur, which conservatives insist is not on the table and indeed accuse Democrats of making that whole thing up, all while the extreme right-wing faction screams and dreams for impeachment, then a two-thirds supermajorty vote of the Senate would be required to remove the president from office, and should that vote occur in the affirmative, the Vice President of the United States will assume the office of the presidency. Since this series of events has happened ZERO times in our country's history, anyone that is holding out hope for that scenario is hoping for something that indeed would be a first to date. Anyone that thinks that no one can possibly know these things when these issues are actually clearly outlined in the United States Constitution is simply uninformed regarding constitutional protocol, period.

Number 5: Yes, I think that it is whining, and now there is more added to that.

Number 6: Yes, I was discussing that when I gave my opinion about the issue, saying: "I don't get what the big deal is anyway because regardless of any of it, Obama is here to stay and has already won a second term. The election is over. He won. There's no re-do..... ever..... no matter what. Period." As I said, that's partly my opinion and partly a fact. I am also of the opinion that Obamacare is here to stay, although it might be tweaked, as I do not believe there is a snowball's chance in Hades that President Obama will sign legislation to repeal his signature legislation or that a supermajority in both the House and the Senate will vote to override his veto of such legislation to repeal the ACA. I also believe that when Obama leaves office in 2017 that there will be upwards of approximately 30 million people signed up for the ACA/Obamacare. Just more of my opinions. Anyone should feel free to discuss that or not, in addition to the points in the original OP, and anyone should feel free to expound on it in any way they choose; that is what is meant by political discussion.

You said: "You decided to bring in something that was not being discussed to change the course of the conversation."

More whining about changing the subject? This is a constant theme of conservatives on this board. This accusation is leveled multiple times a day on this board along with cries of "deflection." Do conservatives come to the politics board and post Obama is a Muslim and all manner of complete and utter baseless right-wing fabrications and expect everyone here to just agree with it? Conservatives point out that Obama sympathizes with Muslims and that he therefore must be a Muslim, but if a liberal tries to point out that George W. Bush sympathized with Muslims and spoke in a mosque after 9/11 and that conservatives didn't accuse him of actually being one for doing that, the cries of "deflection" and "changing the subject" are made. There's never any discussion about how it is a president's job to advance equal treatment of all races, religions, etc., just the constant and seemingly never-ending stifling of political discourse and any conversation of those that don't agree with your extreme right-wing agenda that the president is a Muslim for doing his job. I can only assume from this frequent occurrence that conservatives don't really want political discussion but rather want everyone on the board to agree with their worldview. Um, for the millionth time that I believe I have typed this, no one was deflecting or trying to "change the course of the conversation." I voiced my opinion about why I thought the subject of the post was "no big deal anyway regardless." I could care less if you continue to discuss it or not.

You seem to be proud of posting an asterisk in place of profanity, and I believe this is an attitude that permeates deep within the party of conservatives and the extreme right-wing fringe, where whining incessantly that others won't follow the rules, they act as if they are somehow entitled by birthright to rewrite the rules to fit their party's worldview or to disregard the rules altogether, all while expecting others to follow the very rules that they flaunt and ignore.

And now we’re paying the price. Now we’ve fallen behind the rest of the world. Now we’re forced to beg Saudi Arabi ...
