During Obama’s Speech at Democratic Campaign Rally, Crowd Does Something ‘Weird’

Posted: Oct 20, 2014

EXCERPT:

"During President Barack Obama’s speech at a Maryland Democratic campaign rally Sunday, crowd members departed while he spoke — an action that “underscored his continuing unpopularity,” Reuters reported.

That's weird? I'd call it good sense. - :))

It was also extremely RUDE. - nm

No it was not. I've gotten up and walked out of many - things - don't have time

to sit and waste my time listening to something of unimportance. If there is a lousy speaker, horrible movie or someone not credible and who lies all the time, it is not rude to leave. It is good sense on the peoples part to not have to sit there and waste their valuable time.
Still doesn't make it polite. - Rude is as rude does.

It's rude to be lied to repeatedly. - SM
[ In Reply To ..]
Especially by the President of the United States, someone we elected based on trust, based on believing his promises, which all turned out to be just a pack of lies in order to get elected.
Exactly. They had every right to walk out on what was - Probably more lies.

That's for sure - sm

which makes these predictably factless reports coming out of conservative media that much more repugnant.
Once again, it was not rude. It would actually be rude - don't have time

to the people who would have to be stuck there. It is good sense to not waste valuable time that people have listening to someone who repeatedly lies stand there and spread more lies and fear mongering. The sensible thing is to leave. That is not rude, that is having good judgement. Time is precious. It would actually be rude to the people who would have to sit there and waste their time listening to bull stink staying there just so it makes someone "look good". So the people got up and politely walked out. It was sensible thing to do.
No, I'd say that's rude or a statement - specifically planned
[ In Reply To ..]
You don't just end up at a speech by the President of the United States and decide it is a waste of time and walk out. You plan to walk out.

Not weird, just more people understanding the truth. - opp

the dozens of reports from AP and mainstream sources outside the usual cast of conservative media misanthropists describing overflow crowds, with a Fire Marshall count of 8,000, clearly indicating numbers beyond the venue's capacity. Oddly enough there is no video evidence of this seemingly bogus claim. What I do see is what some are calling a "rowdy" crowd with organized folks in blue shirts protesting increased deportations and the lack of movement toward immigration reform....voters conservatives have virtually no chance of capturing. That said, it wouldn't surprise me to learn later on about republican plants at the event. Guess this one needs to spend a little more time in the news cycle for clarification.

Turns out those rushing the exit were the overflow crowd - who didn't get a seat

[ In Reply To ..]
since the event sold out. The president stopped in the gym where they had been assembled and spoke with them before appearing in the main auditorium. That would explain why they were wearing Obama T-shirts to show their enthusiastic support for the POTUS. There were also a few from the press who got their photos, then rushed off to file their stories without making an effort to identify the folks who left early. Reuters was among them.

So much for Jeff Mason's "story of 2014" scoop and its hasty "struggling democrats" angle. I'd never expect an apology from all the conservative sources that ran with the inaccuracies in the Reuters piece. They never have been sticklers for the truth, but Reuters would be well advised to print a retraction or correction. Otherwise, they'll have to wallow around in the mudpit with the rest of the lowest common denominator gang.

So much for the "liberal media." - no message

Everyone is wrong except you? - Says who?

LOL

Why not ask the Marlboro Fire Marshalls - who

[ In Reply To ..]
reduced the crowd size to minimize fire hazard by asking them to leave after the president saw them first, since the venue holds 5,000 and 8000-9000 showed up? You could always take your pick and Google Associated Press, Washington Post, the New York Times, The Christian Science Monitor, Politico, Maryland Reporter, Houston Chronicle or any number of other outlets that got their information from the press pool instead of a single source. What you will notice that's different about those reports than Reuters and reports from "everyone else (who's) wrong" is the negative spin they and their right-wing entourage put on the reporting, attempting to support the negative and often hateful rhetoric they have so heavily invested themselves in ever since the president took office.

Then there's good old common sense. Why would folks who live in a notoriously densely populated blue district that turned out 90% numbers to vote for President Obama in the last two elections spend their hard-earned money for tickets, park far away from the school, walk long distances to get there, stand in line for a couple of hours, then walk out in disgust? BTW, if this was THE "story of 2014" like Jeff Mason claimed it was, why did it not get wall-to-wall coverage beyond the Fox bubble? Does. Not. Compute.

ha ha ha ha ha. Thanks for the laugh - too funny

[ In Reply To ..]
Everyone was there already. It wasn't the "overflow". Now that is a good one. The event once BO got there emptied out.

So much for the "he's so popular" theory.

The event went badly for him with the crowd leaving and the place nearly empty once he got there.

Nice try though.

Ha ha ha ha ha. Thanks for the laugh. - What's even funnier?

[ In Reply To ..]
Obama was popular enough to win a second term, so who really cares about the latest attempt by the right-wing smear machine to excite their viewers these days?

Reminds me of the time the right-wing propaganda network insisted to their faithful followers that Romney would win the election in a landslide, but the event went badly for him.

Not even a nice try, though.

They were sending a message loud and clear to BO. - No doubt about it.

[ In Reply To ..]
I just saw this on TV. This occurred in a district where Barack Obama previously had 90% of the vote. As stated by Tavis Smiley and Dr. Alveda King, MLK's niece, the people are fed up with the liberal agenda. They see where the president's policies have landed them and they're not happy. I think it's great what they did.

The 8000 who waited in line for hours produced and - overflow crowd

[ In Reply To ..]
that was way too much for a high school auditorium to house. When the president spoke to them he was received with cheers and enthusiastic support. When he went to the main event, the folks that could not be seated went home. The only message they sent Obama was one of respect by showing up, standing in line and cheering when he talked to them. By all accounts, regardless of inaccurate reports to the contrary, that 90% is alive and well in Maryland. What is so hard to understand about and oversold crowd going home? Is it too logical?

Spin cycle. - HA!
