I note the "news" channels seem to be toning down the 24/7 ebola hysteria.   Probably not Fox though.

I think the error - sm

Everyone has been pointing fingers at "who is to blame". From my perspective as a former public health employee with experience with private agencies and contractors,I think the CDC did not realize that the private entities such as Texas Presby do not really take warnings and guidelines seriously. Currently being an MT, I see sloppy dictations with hardly any effort made at all, so why would they bother to take government guidelines seriously? I am always typing about MRSA, etc., and we know how well that hand washing goes when docs are dictating while in the bathroom.

I do not believe that all the workers are at fault and most are doing the best they can with the resources they have. However, when the administrators and docs are making 6 and 7 figure salaries, I think they should be paying attention to training and equipment for all staff. It seems they want to be the "nanny state" when things get hard or they screw up.

I know I was really surprised at the high level of dedication and quality of the government agency employees I worked with. I was appalled and shocked when I moved into the private sector. This constant war on government workers is just sick. When I got my job at the government agency, I was told that I received the job over 125 other candidates (this was when unemployment was low). If we do not support the government entities with respect and salaries, these quality employees will not be there when the next Ebola strikes.

Elected officials, too - sm

In our neighboring city, the extremely popular 2-term mayor (second term ran unopposed) has announced that he will not seek a third term. His main given reason is that as his children are reaching their "tween" years, he does not want them subjected to the negative remarks (Tpub hate).

It is super unfortunate as he has done a great job getting this city back on track with a pretty difficult situation handed to him.

I would imagine that there are many good politicians who make the same difficult choice.

The World Health Organization declared Nigeria free of the deadly Ebola virus on Monday after six weeks with no new cases, an achievement with lessons for countries still struggling to contain the deadly virus.

I think the US response has been overall pretty good considering the shock and awe.

This is great news for both countries. - NPC
