Question about diabetes

If someone is wondering if they may have diabetes will an Accu-Chek machine tell that. In other words, if an Accu-Check tells them what their blood sugar is would that be the same thing as getting a blood test to find out if they do or do not have diabetes.

There are many variables in just checking it with an Accu-Chek. Is it the first one in the morning? How soon after you ate did you test? What did you eat? How old are you (although diabetes can happen at any age).

You will have to do many tests several days in a row, particularly in the morning before you eat, and check if it is UNDER 100. Just one test will not be accurate.

The only way to make sure about diabetes is really doing an A1c test (blood test) and should not be more than 6.

Are you having symptoms of some kind that you did the testing? I am 60 and just found out a few years ago I am type 2 diabetic, and that was only because I had a blood sugar over 100 for a couple years in a row at my yearly physical on fasting test. I really had no symptoms of any kind so was quite surprised by the diagnosis.

Doing a random test could be valuable in determining whether further testing is required, but a single test won't lead to a diagnosis. Like other poster said, timing of the test is important and means a huge difference. Testing before you eat vs an hour after you eat a sweet snack will tell you different things. Testing a few hours later will tell you more. If you suspect a sugar problem, get checked out. Blood sugar issues aren't automatically pointing at diabetes. Hypoglycemia is also a problem with sugar. Another thing about high sugar.... are you on medicine that can raise sugar without necessarily making you a diabetic? Steroids are notorious for raising sugar. When the medicine is stopped, sugar should go back to normal. If not, possible to need insulin for awhile to regulate sugar. Diabetes is a big deal. Sounds like it's time for somebody to talk to their doctor.

You can only get an A1c at the doc's office. The A1c is actually calculating a few months' worth of blood sugar, and the A1c is the only diagnostic lab for diabetes.

One of my 2yo males has a cyst on the side of his head. I just noticed it this morning, it's about the size of a golfball and underneath his ear. Its not in his mouth. My family and I are selling our house and moving out of state, but our house is going to sell before we actually move, so we have to rent a house for about 6 months.
