Travel bans used with good success to control outbreaks of diseases in animals

Posted: Oct 17, 2014

It's called a "stand-still" order, and it's one of the FIRST steps taken by agricultural authorities with the very first or even suspected discovery of a case of certain animal diseases.  No animals are allowed to be transported in or out of the "stand-still" order area.

Now, I'm quite sure that human epidemiologists are perfectly aware both of this practice and of its effectiveness.  So there's something else going on here when it comes to implementing travel bans, and of course it almost certainly has to have something to do with FINANCE or POLITICS, or BOTH.

What's the problem? What separates man from animal? - sm

You could take a cow or a bull and look it straight in the eye and level with it, something along the lines of: "My dear, dear cattle. It's for your own good, but you are not allowed to leave this area beginning next week. Those fences there are as far as you can go." The cow goes "moo," and the bull goes "moo" and everything is fine in the pasture.

Now, you try that with a human and see what bull you get.

p.s. Everything is about "finance" or "politics" or both, also known as GREED and POWER.

In this case - sm

It's about pride, saving face and political correctness on the part of the president.

Its about science. - nm

The problem is YOUR president. He doesn't want (sm) - He's a JA

to do anything that might make blacks not like him anymore. He's the biggest racist of our time. He cares not one bit for the country he is supposed to be president of. All he cares about is their feeeeelings.

There's no racism except black on white racism? - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I think all the panicked people who are trying to convince everyone that racism does not exist (except in the form of black on white) need to consider the real possibility that the President of the United States is making decisions based on what scientists are telling him (as he is not a medical professional and does not run the country single handedly nor in a vacuum).

Rather than giving more weight to black people's "feeeeelings," as you think, I believe he is listening to his advisers and giving less weight to the paranoid "feeeeelings" coming from the right wing perpetual whining propaganda machine and their ilk.

Our president has been ignoring the whining from the peanut gallery for quite some time now, and I don't think it's a stretch at all to assume it's just "same stuff different day" concerning this decision.

I just reread my post. Did I say that?? - I think not.

You must be new to the board. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Conservatives on the board have been insisting that there is no racism anymore. Along comes a conservative who appears willing to admit that racism does indeed exist. So I asked the question:

"There's no racism except black on white racism?"

Feel free to answer my question. Obviously, no one accused you of saying the words contained in the question, but you certainly did call the POTUS a racist.
Conservatives have never insisted there is no racism - We have however,
[ In Reply To ..]
Been talking about the faux racism issues that have nothing to do with race.

Maybe you are the one who is new to the board.

PS - The person sitting in the seat most certainly is a racist.
No, you didn't and someone is trying to bait you. - Twisting things around as usual.
[ In Reply To ..]
Ignore it.

Like it or not - he is YOUR president too

[ In Reply To ..]
Oh, the humanity! The tyranny of having a president you despise and don't consider your own! How awful!

So basically it's your turn now - we had Bush for 8 years. I personally don't recall anyone ever saying YOUR president when Bush was there. We suffered him, but he was still OUR president.

If you say he is not your president, I can't imagine why you want to live in his country? Because it is much more his country than yours if he is the president. Just sayin'. Period.

He's not MY president. - Different Poster

[ In Reply To ..]
I didn't vote for him either time (thank God I don't have to carry around that guilt). I am an American. There has NEVER been a question as to my birthplace nor my allegiance. Period.
And there has never been any question as to - PRESIDENT Obama's birthplace or allegiance
[ In Reply To ..]
Except among the lunatic right wing fringe. Honestly. Proof of any of the crazy claims? Never EVER found. Trump sent a virtual squad of detectives there and what did they find? Nada. Period.

And yes, read up on your constitution. Just because you don't vote for a president does NOT mean he is not your president, sorry to say!

I voted for him both times and I have the greatest pride in that, NOT guilt.

You cannot call yourself a patriot if you deny the legitimately elected president of the United States. Nobody says you have to like him, but he IS your president, like it or not. End of story. Period.

Um, no YOU don't decide when its the end of story - Period!
[ In Reply To ..]
There is no "lunatic right wing". Only in the liberals thinking.

You don't like the fact that he was born in another country then you need to take it up with the doctor that delivered him, the grandmother who was in the delivery room and watched him being born, the sister who said he was born in the hospital and the actual certificate. Just because it doesn't fit in the little world you like to live in does not mean its not fact.

Oh and Trump? Nice try. Along with that little stint he pulled. Shame on Trump for trying to pull that off.

Oh yes, the constitution. I certainly have read up on it. Maybe you haven't. There is no where in there that claims what you think it does. Think you need to read it.

Oh yes, maybe you need to edit your post. It is not your place to questions ANYONE's patriotism.

Maybe for the shameful that voted for him he is their president. The rest of the country that did not vote for him, and the ones who did not vote for him, but their ballots disguarded, the military and others and the ones who voted by machine to have the machine keep changing the name, no he is not their president.

Now that is the end of story. PERIOD!!!
That whole "end of story, period" - was a mocking of the cons
[ In Reply To ..]
They were the ones that started that "so there, I'm right and your wrong." end of story, period.

And, I think most of the right wing is lunatics. Right wing news media has driven them off the edge.
"Period" is BO's pet phrase. - sm

"If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor, period."

We all know how that "period" turned out.

THAT is why you see the conservatives writing period. We are mocking YOUR president.

Leftwing so-called "news" media is on the edge and sinking fast. Wonder who has the #1 news show for decades? Oh, wait, that would be Fox News. LOL
Fox News and conservatives can have the ratings. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Democrats will take the White House. LOL.

What good are the ratings of Fox News when the GOP has lost the popular vote in 5 out of the last 6 presidential elections?

Let's talk demographics. Did you know that in the last two decades of Fox News winning the ratings wars that 18 states and the District of Columbia have voted Democratic 6 out of 6 times and that those 18 states currently have 242 electoral votes, which is only only 28 electoral votes short of the 270 needed to win the presidency? There are actually 13 states that have voted Republican in every election since 1992, but they total just a paltry 102 electoral votes.

So enjoy the ratings, but don't expect a Republican in the White House unless your party does an about face on many issues, which they already are currently in the process of doing. That means liberals win either way.
Simpleton semantics, in all their glory. - NM

Right now the country is leaderless with someone sitting in the chair.
Nobody wrote that President Bush - was not their president
[ In Reply To ..]
Nobody ever said that. It does not make sense. Give us lefties credit, as much as we might not like the guy in the white house, we would NEVER say he is not our president. That is the exclusive domain of the right wing.

Just saw a clip of the crazy psychologist, Dr. Blowhole from Fox, voicing much the same nonsense you have all repeated.

President Obama is our president, all of us, he is our leader, like it or not. End of story. Period.
You must have not been on this board during his - entire presidency

All the passengers are NOT quarantined. One passenger who handled Patient 0's lab test 19 days ago but had no direct contact with him is self-quarantined on the ship. The lab worker has NO symptoms whatsoever and never did.

At the time of the post, the passengers were "stranded" - aboard the ship.

Judging Stimulus By Job Data Reveals SuccessFeb 17, 2010
Imagine if, one year ago, Congress had passed a stimulus bill that really worked. Let’s say this bill had started spending money within a matter of weeks and had rapidly helped the economy. If that had happened, what would the economy look like today? Well, it would look almost exactly as it does now. Because thos ...
