Communication and Ebola patient in Dallas

Posted: Oct 1, 2014

Today's Ebola news shocker (not!!) is that information obtained from a diligent and thorough nurse failed to make into clinical decision making, and the patient was sent home with antibiotics for undiscovered Ebola. Properly handled, the patient would have gone into isolation at that time, and been treated with appropriate supportive measures, and not spent 2 additional days exposing others to the virus. If many more Ebola cases occur as a result of this totally commonplace error on the part of an ER physician, I wonder what changes might be instituted in charting and processing? There are 5 school-aged children being monitored. The ramifications of this mistake are really unimaginable.;

And do you know if the hospital staff - had been trained in

detection of the Ebola virus? Did they know that person had just arrived from Liberia? This sounds like laying blame on the hospital when it should be that the patient should never have been allowed to fly out of Liberia. Then there would have been no exposure.

Nobody allowed out of Liberia - At this point, please

We allow too much cross travel into this country, be it terrorists or people coming in from diseased countries.

Enough.

You are aware it is not only Liberia - but other countries as well

About a month ago my friend's boyfriend came back from Nigeria where he went for a few months. I was giving her the third degree about his coming back, left well, did he return the same way?

Liberia - okaylady

I totally agree with you.

I have a theory that he probably came ahead to the US because he knew he would come down with it and could get the best care here. However, if that mistake had not happened at the hospital letting him go home then no one else especially children would have been exposed.

I still have to wonder about whether anyone is really cleaning up after people have been exposed, like at the school and will they also clean that apartment, clothing, etc.

I also have reason to believe that the reason that the kids are getting sick and four have died from that virus thing is that it was brought over when those illegals came across.

They let terrorists come here, illegals, people who have serious diseases, etc. They should have closed the border on 911 forever to anyone. I do not care if it looks like we don't want people to come here. They can come the legal way and not bring with them all the cartels, murderers, rapists, etc.

I mean this virus thing is akin to the polio virus. I know kids have had polio immunization, but many are coming across the border with polio, TB the incurable kind as well as other horrible diseases that we eradicated. Perhaps lots of these are mutating as well.

It all scares me. I don't remember a time and I have lived a good while that I was this scared, not even the Cuban missile thing nor the cold war and Russia. Seems no one wants to try to protect us from anything. God, deliver us from political correctness and imbiciles like these people in our government, all branches.

So if I am understanding you right, if someone - comes here legally

then a legal resident does not do any murders, does not have any diseases that can be given to others, that just by becoming a citizen all is sugar and spice? Apparently you have not kept up with the people (American citizens, by the way) who do not want to have vaccinations for their children, with measles raising its ugly head again. Oh, I forgot, they must have come across the border, not our good citizens. I am so glad I am not racist.
I have just one thing to say. - A different poster.

I wish people would get it through their heads that not everything is about race. This is not a racist issue. It is a health issue and a legal issue. If you come into the United States illegally, you are breaking the law. If you have no respect for the law to break into this country, how are you going to have respect for the law when you live here?
Maybe not race monger, but how about - hate monger, better?

There are plenty of people here who do not adhere to health concerns, people refusing to have immunizations. Noticed that wasn't addressed. Bulloney.

Mobile Groomers.....Dallas, TxOct 11, 2010
Anyone used them? I thought it'd be so much easier so I found Pet Love in Dallas. Huge mistake! Two of my dogs are fine but one appears to have been cut up and looks like he was in a major dog fight. I called the company and the woman argued with me, saying the groomer did an excellent job even though she'd not seen the dog or even a picture of him. I'm fit to be tied. ...

Learning About The 5 Dallas Officers Lost, Any ONE Of WhomJul 09, 2016
I am THOROUGHLY DISGUSTED with the race-baiting hate-mongers on the left, who make hay (money, votes, influence) out of very isolated instances of police misconduct. We have 800,000 or so sworn officers in this country.  Figure conservatively that they have 4 significant citizen contacts per shift.  That's 3,200,000 citizen contacts, of which only a very few have adverse implications. America's police forces ARE NOT - and I repeat - ARE NOT RACIST.  In fact, police dep ...

Re. Nursing Home Patient(s)Oct 15, 2009
Several family members while in nursing homes have been approached by religious "Zealouts" trying to push the "right faith" by staff or so-called "visitors" on them. I am so sick of it! My Dad was presented with a Bible of different faith at 81 and dying. Now another member at 85 in failure was presented with 3 different "faiths" by the "staff" and I am enraged. Being asked questions by 85-YO as to what is "B'hai" and what is "Spiritualism." I am so sick of it. Keep your Bible(s) off their ...

We Are Not Allowed To Talk About Any PatientOct 15, 2014
I am just reading this morning about the nurse who has tested positive for Ebola in Texas after taking care of Eric Duncan. Nurse understood the risks of working so close to one of the world’s most feared viruses and tried to reassure her family that she would be safe. When nurse’s mother learned her daughter was caring for Thomas Eric Duncan, nurse told her: “Mom, no. Don’t worry about me,” family friend said. How would the mother have known had the daughter not told her? Is that ...
