Noteworthy is the fact that Saudi Arabia is approximately 97% Sunni and Jordan around 98% Sunni Muslim, since the Islamic State are extremist Sunni Muslims that don't even recognize Shia as true Muslims. Qatar, Bahrain, and UAE are also over 75% Sunni.
So the US and heavy Sunni countries have attacked the extremist Sunnis.
Funny how it's just his Muslim friends that will help him. - No one else trusts him.

Al Qaeda and ISIS/ISIL (which al Qaeda expelled from their ranks) are the extremist Sunni Muslims who regard liberal/moderate Muslims, Shias, Sufis and other sects as heretics. Extremist Muslims are not just killing Christians; they're killing other Muslims. It's about power, not really religion, and it has been going on since the death of Muhammed in 632 CE.
Obama understands what Bush didn't, which is that taking out the Sunnis and Baath Party of Saddam and replacing them with Shia wasn't going to end the centuries old war for power. Disbanding Saddam's army was the biggest bonehead move of the neocons, and in his infinite "wisdom," Bush approved it. That made an enemy in waiting.
We can't keep fighting the moderate Muslims' fight against the competing Muslim extremists, as the one thing the extremists have in common is their hatred of the US. The only ones that can put some kind of lid on the situation is them, the moderates. The US cannot keep fighting their battles forever, and Obama is dealing with it accordingly.
