I have tried twice to post a message here. Both times, I have submitted it and it never does post. It always comes back with the whole message box empty. This is something that I am just livid about in addition to all the illegals we are taking in. http://www.wnd.com/2014/09/u-n-to-dump-flood-of-muslim-refugees-on-u-s/;

I stand right beside you. - sm

This was actually posted a couple days ago and people were trying to blame Bush for it. I think our only recourse is to inform our house representatives and senators of our displeasure and hope that they listen to us before it is too late.

I stand beside you, too - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
All we can do is pray and get out there and campaign to throw out the senators and representatives who let him get away with this. Only a few weeks until election day!

I think you are confusing refugees with illegals. - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
The conservatives who are whining the loudest about "illegals" were the most verbal supporters of Bush's plan to "liberate" and help the "Iraqis achieve a united, stable, and free country." Bush said it would require a sustained effort (see link), but maybe he should have been more specific about it. Maybe if he had told his conservative supporters about the UN's "you break it, you bought it" mindset, people wouldn't have been so eager for war and the aftermath of war and destruction. In the process of war, thousands and thousands of innocent Iraqis were freed when they were killed (collateral damage) or left homeless when their residences were destroyed. These refugees have been resettled by the UN all over the world, including here, and have been since the liberation of these people began.

So if conservatives are livid about the Muslim refugees, perhaps they'll think twice next time John McCain and Lindsey Graham are calling for strategic air strikes in every country. There are consequences to war. When we liberate people and disrupt their lives, they sometimes become our people.

This is by no means a new concept. A lot of people were resettled all over the world from Germany and Europe after WWI and WWII. Today, Germany has slogans saying: "No one is illegal" and "Refugees Welcome!" Germany is taking in Syrians by the thousands.

http://blogs.reuters.com/events/2014/09/18/refugees-welcome-is-more-than-a-slogan-in-germany/

Sweden is actually taking in more refugees than Germany, and yes some refugees will come to the US.

That's just what happens when people are "liberated" and displaced. Nothing new at all.

You thought wrong. - nm

Care to expound?
Not the person you replied to, but I also thought the same thing - you thought wrong

You are calling illegals who are coming here refugees. They are not refugees.
Huh??? - someone else

I was asking the "nm" poster if she cared to expound on "you thought wrong." These drive-by posts without any message are annoying and don't foster discussion. I never said anything about "illegals" and refugees.

Do not believe you about WWI and WWII - livid

[ In Reply To ..]
Some of these links have nothing to do with our country.

I do not believe you about WWI and WWII taking in refugees after the war.

The people I think need refuge are the Christians and Jews going through persecution and exile.

We are making a huge mistake taking in Muslims because I do not trust a single one of them. Their Quran nor religion promote peace. It always includes killing the infidels.

So you go ahead and have warm fuzzies about what you think is humanitarian when I consider having lived probably a lot longer than you that I have watched this country systematically be taken over not only by our elected, but the hoardes that come here.

I have no objection to people wanting to be a citizen if they do it legally. This is sheer maddness and who is going to be shocked when we see violence come to our shores in the form of ISIS or some other Muslim organization. Just look at how many mosques are in this country.

You just duck your head in the sand until someone comes to kill you because you are an infidel. If you do not believe as Muslims, then you are dead.

I agree as well. - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
The person who accused you of being confused regarding illegals versus Muslims has her own agenda. She loves to twist things around to fit the left-wing propaganda machine, and a lot of the liberals on this board appear to fall into lockstep with her. It would be funny if it weren't so pathetic.

Half-million Jewish refugees in WWII - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
She didn't state that the WWI and WWII refugees settled in U.S. It was a statement that war creates refugees, always has and always will. It is a byproduct, and sometimes at the ends of the wars they have even divided the countries up as has been done in the past with Korea, Vietnam, Germany (they even had a wall)

You not believing me doesn't change the facts. - sm

Perhaps you will believe your own link: http://www.wnd.com/2014/09/u-n-to-dump-flood-of-muslim-refugees-on-u-s/

UN to dump flood of Muslim refugees on US.

Believe whatever you wish about refugees, but it won't in any way whatsoever change the facts. Millions of people were displaced during WWI and WWII and hundreds of thousands came to the US. There were strict immigration laws implemented in the early 1920s that stopped the unlimited European immigration to the US, so the displaced persons and refugees of WWI were handled as regular immigrants with limited numbers from each country. During WWII, the US turned away Jewish refugees because of these strict quotas, and they were forced to return to Nazi Germany. In 1944, in signing Executive Order 9417, FDR established the War Refugee Board to help rescue refugees and also directed that Fort Ontario, New York, become a free port for refugees. The WRB was able by the end of the war in 1945 to aid the rescue of about 200,000 Jews in Hungary, Romania, and elsewhere in Europe along with other refugees.

"In 1945 President Harry S. Truman signed an executive order [the Truman Directive] that gave displaced persons, or refugees, priority over other immigrants. Congress passed the War Brides Act, 59 Stat. 659, in 1945 and the Displaced Persons Act, 62 Stat. 1009, in 1948 to make the United States more responsive to international immigration and refugee situations. The War Brides Act permitted the immigration of 120,000 alien wives and children of U.S. soldiers. The Displaced Persons Act allowed for more than the previously established quotas of refugees from Poland, Germany, Latvia, Russia, and Yugoslavia to be admitted." (see link)

The Displaced Persons Act brought approximately 400,000 refugees to the US, of which 80,000 were Jews. Like I said, notwithstanding your believing it or not, the US taking in refugees is nothing new. Your statements about "our country" and "our shores" are interesting. Being of Native American and British descent, I have a particularly different perspective of "our country" and its "systematically being taken over" and the "hoardes that come here" than most. I am guessing that you probably are unaware that there are actually a sizeable number of people that consider Christians part of the hoardes that you speak of. I wonder if you have any idea whatsoever of the millions of people that have been murdered in the name of Christianity? Study Pope Urbanus II and his call for Christian holy war.

You said: "You just duck your head in the sand until someone comes to kill you because you are an infidel. If you do not believe as Muslims, then you are dead."

Believe what you want to believe; believe you need to live your entire life in fear of something you appear to know little about. My head is nowhere near the sand, as I choose NOT to live as an extremist or an isolationist. Like the majority of Americans, I do not believe that one has to become an extremist in order to fight extremism. Perhaps my Native American ancestors should have feared the so-called Christians they welcomed, and perhaps on the flip side my British ancestors shouldn't be so proud of perfecting guns that were responsible for the deaths of millions, but as for myself, if my not having extremist beliefs against my neighbor means I will be killed by them, then I guess I will take my chances, as I am a believer of practicing God's greatest commandments, and I am certainly not as defeated as you already seem to be.

Living in tornado alley, I do have a storm shelter to protect myself from the very real effects of climate change, but otherwise I absolutely refuse to live my life in fear of other people. Got to go now; it's party time at my house with a last day of summer pool party from now until midnight.  Happy fall everybody.

Lost A FriendJan 14, 2014
I wonder if this has happened to anyone? I really need to vent about this, so if this long, sorry. Last year about June, my best friend moved across country. We used to be close like sisters. In fact, she often considered me her sister. I was her only female friend in this part of the country. She had been through so much with me. It was the kind of relationship that if we didn't speak for a couple of months or so, one of us would call and it was like we had spoken just yesterday. ...

It Seems To Me Sensible Conservatives Have Lost Their PrideJan 24, 2013
go did go wrong for a couple of decades, letting themselves be swept farther right without scoping out the crowd they found themselves part of and where it was going, or why. That did cost us all badly, but what happened when we lost their stabilizing contribution just shows how much we need them to be good conservatives, to not sit quietly out in some chastened "independent-land" while extremists continue to dominate the discussion. It's way past time for them to get over it and step up ...
