Would think that since gun lovers are so proud of their second amendment rights, they wouldn't mind when a doctor asks if he/she owns a gun.  And of course this would happen in Florida, where there seems to be more than just a few armed crazies roaming around - George Zimmerman and Michael Dunn . . .

;

It's not the doctor's business if someone owns - a gun. It's a violation of

[ In Reply To ..]
first amendment rights. When people ask me stuff like that, I tell them I have a brother who is a trial lawyer. Besides, I don't recall that being in the Hippocratic oath. The false premise is that guns are a health risk.

Or you could just say "no" I don't have any guns.

Rather than becoming confrontational, which - will end up being recorded

[ In Reply To ..]
and eventually used against you, I would just say no to the question.

Possible responses, yes I have a squirt gun - a caulking gun, nail gun,

and my husband has a grease gun.

Or, why are you planning on robbing me?

Maybe they should just hand out pamphlets - with the information

If it applies, read it, and take due note of the possible dangers. Pediatricians try to ask patient/parents questions to prevent dangerous/unhealthy situations.

There's a reason why they ask. They also ask - if you use seat belts in your car,

[ In Reply To ..]
or if you have any tattoos. There's a reason behind their questions, but it has nothing to do with Big Brother spying on us, or violating our constitutional rights. People get so fixated on some of the minutia of life, they forget to step back and look at the big picture.

that docs ask about your diet, exercise, alcohol and drug use, smoking, sexual contacts, and even stick their fingers in places where the sun don't shine. They also ask about suicidal and homicidal ideation as well as guns in the home. Pretty bazaar that anyone would think a doc should not do this.
Bizarre is that people immediately jump - to conspiracy theory

I'm not into big government!!!!!
do they ask if you pray at home, or have a - swimming pool in the

backyard. I guess SSRIs and amphetamines are better to have in the home than guns.

Ridding ourselves of ‘gun violence’ is only a strawman argument to hide the real agenda, which is tyranny.
Pray, no. The swimming pool question, yes. - And for good reason.

understands the reasoning as to why a doctor asks this and many, many other questions. Gun lovers are so proud of themselves for being such real "Mericans," and showing that pride by sticking with the NRA and their mantra "The answer to a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun?" The doctor is just doing his/her job. By the way, how do tell a good guy with a gun from a bad guy with a gun?
I reject your premise that a REAL MT would - think it's okay for a doctor
[ In Reply To ..]
to ask questions that are not related to health.

My mechanic doesn't ask me about my cooking skills.
I would ask the doctor what is in the fridge - at home, how is your diet? What
[ In Reply To ..]
do you eat? How is your health?
Also ask the doctor if he/she smokes or owns a - gun and then take notes.nm

This all goes into an EMR. If you think treatment - in the future will not

takes all these things into consideration, then you're fooling yourself.

I didn't ask for your acceptance in the first place. And I still stand by a REAL MT understanding why a doctor would ask about gun ownership.

No, it isn't - sm

Your employer is not an emissary of public health. There are laws in place to protect those who apply for jobs.
Furthermore, there is no law that says you MUST tell your doctor the truth.

Guns are a public health concern - sm

If you don't like the question, don't answer it. My doctor asks if I wear my seatbelt and have smoke detectors. These, too, are public health concerns.
