Microfiber Sheets

Posted: Jul 29, 2014

Hi all, I'm wanting to buy some microfiber sheets, because they are so much cheaper than the high-count cotton, which I like the softness of. The microfiber seems soft enough, but do they hold up? In other words, do they "pill" easily, stand up to laundering and such? The price is so much lower than my other sheets I like to buy, so that's a little scary. I usually pay about $40-50 for a queen set, middle grade. (I refuse to pay $100 for sheets.) I can probably get the microfiber for half of what I usually pay. Anyone with microfiber sheet experience? I also need my sheets to "breath" because we live in a very warm climate. Thanks! ;

....and it does not need to be expensive if you buy sheets at stores like Marshalls. Recently bought a twin set there for like $15.00. Very high quality brand name like Hotel New York.
At that price, you could afford to take the risk to see if you like them.

I have microfiber "flannel" sheets from JCPenney. sm - Feather Tuscadero

They are 100% poly and are incredibly soft. I live in Florida and only buy 100% cotton...can't stand the 50/50 cotton/poly blend...so I was really reluctant to get 100% poly. But these from JCP had SO many positive reviews online. I used them all winter and no pilling whatsoever. However, they are way too warm to use outside of winter.
Again, these were intended to mimic flannel; I have not tried other microfiber that claim to be all-weather.
Also, my microfiber sheets NEVER get cold in winter...which is awesome.
I have heard many good things about bamboo fiber sheets...good durability, high softness, good breathability...but have not tried them myself.

TJMaxx or Marshalls - 100% cotton

I buy high-quality, high-count, 100% cotton sheets at TJMaxx or Marshalls. Never pay more than 39.99 for queen. Sometimes come with 2 pairs of pillowcases, too. Laura Ashley has some that are very light. Ralph Lauren hold up wdll, too.

Look at the stitching before buying. Only buy linens with fine stitches, not the kind that has longer, looser stitches.

Microfiber polyester does develop that awful rancid oil, old-men's-socks smell, so beware.

If you have pets I would not suggest them, they hold onto the pet hair even after washing them, there are pet hair balls on them, will not buy them again. They have worn well otherwise. There are so many pretty ones too for a great price like you said, too bad about the hair.

Thanks All! - OP

Thanks everyone. I think I'll give them a shot. Heck, if I don't like them, I'll just put them on the guest bed, LOL.

I don't have shedding pets, so that won't be a problem.
