Bought my website. Taking some pics.

I also joined Etsy, using my domain name.  May I say...I wasn't terrifically impressed with quality of items for sale on Etsy.  There were some phenomenal things....and then not so phenomenal...and the not-so-phenomenal stuff was selling too (maybe they just sold to their friends.  I don't know.  It didn't seem like it).  So I guess that's a hopeful sign...

...I also have a *fun* job now, part-time, it is great to punch in, work, and voila! you get paid for all the time you are there!  At my job I am surrounded by beautiful interesting pieces of clothing.  Quite inspiring.  Plus 2 breaks + 1/2 hour for lunch.  I interact with the public all day at my job.  My boss said, "I love your energy."  Well thank you.

Hopefully if I can make *some* money selling my own stuff on Etsy, it will take the pressure off financially.  Craft shows and so on.

Life beckons.

I have a sort-of part-time job (which I should be doing right now, actually!), and am about to start selling off a bunch of things I no longer need, but that someone else might, on eBay. I have lots of creative ideas at the back of my mind that might sell pretty well on sites such as Etsy, but I haven't been able to overcome my inertia about getting started yet. (My home is filled with half-finished projects I never completed). Part of the problem is I get too many ideas, and before I finish one, a new idea pops up and I lose interest in the old one. It's a vicious cycle.

For the most part, I've found the things on Etsy to be high-quality. I've bought a few handmade earrings and a couple handmade clothing items that were really lovely. I also go to the site just to get the creative juices flowing. Sometimes seeing one item will cause an idea for something entirely un-related to pop up in my head. But then there's the HARD part: Following through!

Good luck with your Etsy shop!

Etsy store - me too

I have had an Etsy store for almost 2 years and doing quite well considering so much competition - I do wax tarts and soap items.

I think a lot of stores on there sell quality items but unfortunately they changed the rules this year and there a more and more mass produced items and cheaper items there.

Good luck with your store

Thanks for both of your responses - wheres_my_job

Will keep you posted. Little concerned I'll end up doing some great creative things...but then not be making any money, 'cause I haven't priced anything correctly.

Re: Stuff on Etsy - I was looking at very narrow categories of things - I thought the color choices were so...weird...but those color combinations were selling! In my painting class, someone's always coming over with a color wheel, to show the right complementary color to use - and then I look at a lot of paintings also. So when I go on Etsy, it's a bit shocking, the color combinations people use!

Oh well, off to work. Really, not in the mood today. Everybody have a great day!
I think ultimately you have to price things based - on materials, labor hours, - sm

usefulness, current trends and fashion, etc. And so often, it sometimes just boils down to how much does the product speak to a potential buyer.

I'm currently in love with the adorable little seahorse pendants made from rounded sea glass stones and silver wire, by a person in Spain. Priced around $150 to $275-ish, they're a little pricey for my own, personal budget, so I haven't bought one. Yet they're totally unique, beautiful, realistic-looking, and in my mind, worth what the artist is asking. I can't afford one, but when I look on his website periodically, the one thing I always note is that the seahorses I drooled over in the past are always sold.

Pregnancy Pics, Ultrasounds Of A Baby? Sep 03, 2013
My husband and I married for about a year. His niece is having a baby. I am happy for her but have only seen her twice and got invite to baby shower, out of state, couldn't go, ultrasound of her baby on the invite and yesterday got 52 pics of her pregnancy pictures. If she and spouse happy, good but people should realize not everyone cares about seeing pregnancy pictures and as far as ultrasound, that would be just like me looking at someone's xray that I don't even know and could ...

I came across this site (don't remember how, a link off of a link off of a link, etc).  Anyway...thought these were adoreable pics of kids reading to cats in shelters while they wait to be adopted.  I think it's a great program. Hope you enjoy the site ...

Malkin Posts Inflammatory Phoney Pics Of TrayvonMar 26, 2012
Yesterday a right-leaning website called Twitchy ran a picture of George Zimmerman in a suit and tie next to what they claimed was a picture of Trayvon Martin with no shirt and sagging pants.  Twitchy is owned and operated by Michelle Malkin, a conservative pundit who is a frequent guest on Fox News. The picture of Zimmerman was real, but the picture of Martin was not.  IMO, they have sunk to an all-time low this time, falling all over themelves trying to discredit a dead teenager w ...

For Anyone Who Has Ever Bought A Home, When MovingMay 04, 2015
any construction or upgrades of any kind? My child is in the process of buying a home. I have bought 2 in my lifetime. The first one was built in the 40s. It was a HUD, repossessed and nothing was needed to make it livable. The second was a fairly new home, 4 years old, and it also was move in ready. My daughter has had a terrible time trying to get the people selling to turn on utilities so it could be inspected. Yesterday told me inspection day. No water on, the inspector could not check the A ...

Downsizing - The Things I Bought And Never NeededFeb 07, 2011
I finally realized I do not need to follow Martha Stewart or those other people around and need to have everything in the world to show how great my housekeeping and entertaining abilities are (and they are both still terrible anyway).  I  have 2 relatives who live a long way away, a brother and a niece and she has no children.  I have no children.  I have been a widow for 30 years.  Now tell me why I need 3 full sets of dishes (nice china, etc.) with service for 12.&nb ...

Norway Killer Bought Ammunition Clips From USJul 30, 2011
The man who confessed to killing 68 people in Norway last week says he bought the ammunition clips used in his shooting spree from the U.S by mail order. Anders Behring Breivik wrote in his 1,500-page manifesto that he spent $500 for 10 30-round clips. Clips with more than three rounds are banned from sale in Norway. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY), who introduced legislation to limit high-capacity ammunition clips following the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ), told Politico ...

Elizabeth Warren Bought Foreclosed HomesMay 27, 2015
Nearly two years after Veo Vessels died, her daughter, 70-year-old Mary Frances Hickman, decided to sell the home her mother had left to her. A sprawling brick house in Oklahoma City’s historic Highland Park neighborhood, it was built in 1924, just a year after Mary’s birth. Decades later, one of Vessels’ great-grandchildren fondly recalls the wood and tile floors, the fish pond, the butler’s quarters, and the multi-car garage where children played house. “It was really, really n ...
