I don't get this Nevada cowboy thing.

I don't like big government involvement in anything really, but why was this cowboy allowing his cattle to graze on government land? Shouldn't they have been grazing on his land? Does this mean that for all these years, the government (taxpayers) was paying for his cows to be fed and watered?

and the cattle owners pay a fee. This BLM thing is very complicated. A good thing is that the range gets observed so it is not overgrazed, but a bad thing is that BLM, currently, under pressure of cattle owners, are trying to destroy wild horses, despite the 1971 law to protect wild horses. BLM always claims that wild horses are reproducing like crazy, but every picture I have seen of herds have been of modest herds. Then, BLM has taken some of these herds and warehoused them in feedlots, paying friends of BLM, to feed them. Interestingly, there have been accounting problems in this arrangement as it has been proven that some of these horses have been shipped to slaughter in Mexico. So much for our national wild horses. I find it agonizing that the same things that drove Wild Horse Annie to urge protection (see Mustang: Wild Spirit of the West by M. Henry) in the 50s, 60s, is happening again.

Bundy’s land is within the “Dry Lake Solar Energy Zone and surrounding area” which is part of a broad U.S. Department of Energy program for “Solar Energy Development in Six Southwestern States” on land “managed” by BLM.

On another note, they are confiscating Bundy's cattle now, which is his living. As Bundy has said, he's willing to pay Nevada the land fees but the BLM just took over this land a couple years ago and they don't have any right to the state's land.

It is complicated but it's a land grab by the government and Nevada isn't the only place threatened. .

Ironic.
