Reason why I hate my job

Posted: Apr 7, 2014

Production only pay – not steady income. Not paid hourly. Working holidays/weekends. Mandatory OT (not asked) and emailed if you do not work OT and not paid any extra for OT, just for lines produced. No incentives/bonuses (except produce more lines, which affects QA). No pay raises over top tier CPL ever! More accounts added to my mask after I asked not to have more work added because I knew I would not be able to meet QA. More responsibility with less pay. Pay decreased twice within 1 year. No advancement, no promotions, no raises (except to lead or QA position). Submitted an idea twice about rotating weekends/holidays and was rejected. Not surprised! Require advanced notice for holidays off yet AMs are already taking off in Jan! Higher ups not held to same scheduling demands as MTs. High insurance premiums that do not pay anything anyway. High deductible. Had to supplement my income with side jobs. Felt blacklisted on applications due to being an MT. I am basically teaching the software to replace me and I fear for my job security. Depression, anxiety, mental stress, need for therapy (cannot afford to go). Constant upkeep of office/equipment that I have to pay for out of pocket. Having to make up time for no electricity when my whole block went out! Having time subtracted from my timecard because I was over hours. Needing new glasses and bite guards due to eye strain and teeth grinding. Headaches/migraines. Neck, shoulder, back, jaw pain from wearing headphones. Weight gain. Hand/wrist pain. Leg swelling. Loss of circulation. Poor sleep. Afraid to answer phone/check email as it may be work. Sheer boredom of VR. Feeling like a robot, not an employee. Feeling rushed due to production requirements to be completed in set hours. Not compensated to review email, job logs, production detail, feedback, AI, etc. No one set of instructions. Each account has their own specifications. Having to chase down missing reports that I’m not being paid for. Not being paid for spaces, headings, subheading, footers, demos, normals, etc. Not being paid for returned/erroneous reports, which is a waste of my time. Listening to background noise, coughing, chewing, phone calls, screaming babies, yelling patients; doctors vomiting, flushing, eating, driving, etc. ESL doctors are difficult to understand! Having to wipe out entire report and type from scratch as it is easier to fix than editing VR garbage (and not being paid full CPL for typing that job). Not being paid full typing rate when I had to change a doctor’s ID as he entered the wrong one and VR didn’t recognize him and no draft came through. Paid as edited report even though I typed it completely. (At least 10 reports!) Changing my schedule to reflect working during busier times and still OOW on Saturdays/holidays! Having to pay to keep my PC on and running up my electric bill. No consistency between QAs. Each one tells me how to do it differently. Dinged for commas, punctuation, extra spaces (that we are not paid for anyway) yet told to not over edit and it doesn’t matter as long as patient care is not affected. How does adding “the” or “a” in front of “patient” affect care??? Having to “clock out” to use the bathroom (or subtract any unproductive time). Working “off the clock” over 40 hours but not allowed to put more than 40 on my time card even though I’m not paid hourly! (unless mandatory OT or selected as an MT for approved OT). Mandatory OT until further notice! Not asked but told this! (I have a life outside of MT!) SR/VR software not “learning” our editing. Making the same changes repeatedly or the reports are getting worse! Constant upgrades to software. Having to re-enter shortcuts. Not user friendly like Word point and click using a mouse. No find and replace feature. Software locks up, computer freezes, going “offline.” Being responsible for daily, weekly, monthly PC backup, cleanup, antivirus. Not reimbursed for anything. Spending my money out of pocket for my job. Employer should provide that to employees! (gas mileage, PC repair, antivirus software, Internet, supplies, etc). Not being paid anything for “no dictation” or blank reports. PTO doesn’t carry over after year end. Use it or lose it. No face-to-face contact. Must call, IM, or email (and wait for response). Having to ask to have my mask changed so I get OOT reports or stats (why should I chase them down to give me jobs in TAT order?) Only allowed OT on certain accounts, not actual hours worked that week. Back pain, leg tingling, mental stress leading to physical illness (insomnia, heartburn, GI) Emails and pictures of AM’s vacations when I cannot afford to take one. Missing weekends/holidays with family/friends. No time off or no money to do anything fun. OT required over regular hours on certain accounts yet still have to work regular shift on primary account then OT on the other OOT account. Why can’t we just work all day regular shift on any OOT jobs or accounts out of TAT? Or have select people do certain accounts each day? Having my days/shift in my email signature and on their master schedule yet nobody knows when any of us are supposed to be working! January failed audit, February 100% QA. Why am I on OT when I failed an audit? ON A NEW ACCOUNT? And this isn't MM or N either! Why am I still an MT? Can anyone else relate?;

This should have been posted on both the MM board - and Nuance because

They seem to think they're the only ones with these type of issues.

Actually, it sounds like what both Nuance and Mmodal transcriptionists go through. We are all in the same boat no matter what the company! It doesn't matter. The sooner we're out of here, the better for all of us.

IKR. At least I don't think my MTSO is under the big 2 - but ya never know nowadays

[ In Reply To ..]
Who knows, come 2015 there may a mergers and acquistions happening with "exciting changes." I've not heard anything but it wouldn't surprise me.

If my MTSO gets eaten up by MM or N I'm quitting immediately!

Psychology Of Hate, 7 Stages Of Hate.Aug 27, 2012
I got to wondering once again what is behind some of the behaviors we see on a lot of forums, so I went looking. This link discusses one model, explained by a former FBI behavioral analyst, that is easy to apply to on-line forum discussions, where behaviors would, of course, play out in the first four stages. (The discussion on skinhead groups can be skipped over, if desired, with the actual 7 stages explained below.) It was the last section, though, on how indulging in hate tends to play out ...

One Reason I'm Better Off...Sep 03, 2012
The rest of the world does not despise America with quite the intensity it did under the prior party's administration. That's important to me, because this is the world my children will grow up in. There are a lot of reasons I'm better off than I was 4 years ago. That's one of them.   ...

Where Did All The Reason Go?Jun 20, 2015
America is killing itself through its embrace and exaltation of ignorance, and the evidence is all around us. Dylann Roof, the Charleston shooter who used race as a basis for hate and mass murder, is just the latest horrific example. Many will correctly blame Roof's actions on America's culture of racism and gun violence, but it's time to realize that such phenomena are directly tied to the nation's culture of ignorance. In a country where a sitting congressman told a cro ...

Another Reason To Keep Religion Out Of Gov'tFeb 12, 2010
The Virginia House of Delegates, their version of the House of Representatives, passed a bill on Wednesday that bans companies from tracking their employees with implanted microchips. On the surface, the bill sounds libertarian, albeit in a far-sighted Blade Runner sort of way. But it turns out that the bill’s sponsor was motivated by a more Old Testament perspective: stopping the rise of the Antichrist. "My understanding—I'm not a theologian—but there's a prophecy i ...

A Hospital War Reflects a Bind for Doctors in the U.S. By JULIE CRESWELL and REED ABELSON For decades, doctors in picturesque Boise, Idaho, were part of a tight-knit community, freely referring patients to the specialists or hospitals of their choice and exchanging information about the latest medical treatments. I think it is because it will show a cozy financial relationship with Russia as evidenced by Trump's efforts to make sure the GOP platform did not include support for the Russian-invaded Ukraine.   Gotta keep Putin happy, you know.  Other possibilites are that Trump is not anywhere near as rich as he claims--note he has has received tax credits that are intended to go to middle-class Americans.   Maybe because if the returns are public, business associates of his will reali ...

The Real Reason Kansas Is Running Out Of WaterSep 04, 2013
This same dynamic is playing out in most states. There are moves to get Congress to, first of all, stop subsidizing these practices with taxpayer dollars, but agribusiness, which never intended to get taxpayer money off its back, just our ability to control what's done with it, has its paid agents, our congressmen, fighting anything that will interfere with profits. Second, of course, is nasty old government "interference" to encourage agribusiness's transition to proven means of growi ...

The Real Reason Insurers Are Canceling PoliciesNov 20, 2013
A few years ago, when talking to the insurance coordinator person at my MTSO, I remember a comment she made about the new (yearly the insurance changed to either a new company or new, worse coverage that cost more) high deductible plan. She said, "It is so employees will be more invested in their care." At that point the high deductible policy was a new choice which luckily was not costing too much less than the other more comprehensive one. Now there would be few who could pay the premiums fo ...
