Some object to Easter egg hunt - (sm)

Posted: Apr 6, 2014

If you don't want to hunt Easter eggs, don't hunt them.  No big deal.  No one cares if you don't participate.  Better yet, go back where you came from and follow your own traditions there.  We won't care.

who are highly offended at Parks and Rec egg hunts because they feel it is pagan. For having such a humble and admirable example to follow, they certainly get their magic undies in a knot about lots of things.

stupid thing I've read today (well one of the top stupid things).

Here's the problem they are going to have. Reading the article it said "...were concerned about the religious implications of Cherry Hill Presbyterian Church’s “Eggstravaganza!”". That's where I started laughing - "the religious implications"??? of what? a church? LOL Really? It's a church, what do they expect. It's a church. That's what they are - a religious place. They were also "troubled by images of a bunny rabbit". Really, a rabbit? Wow, how absolutely terrifying that must have been for them to have to look at a picture of a rabbit. Jeepers man. Ya know it's not like a creepy clown. Now if there was a creepy clown I could see where they would be troubled, but really? A bunny rabbit? Bunny rabbit's are so adoreable. Soft, fluffy with floppy ears. Surely there is nothing sinister of a picture of a bunny rabbit. Babies adore them, but a grown up couple can't handle a picture of a rabbit? LOL

What doesn't pass the sniff test is the father stating the son said "I really don’t feel comfortable getting these flyers, telling me to go to church. I thought churches are not supposed to mix with schools.’ That' is more of an adult statement than a child's statement. Sorry, going to have to pass on that one. Also, the flyers don't state that kids have to go to church. It was a flyer for an egg hunt. Pretty little colorful eggs that children love to look for. Went to a ton of them growing up. There was nothing religious about the egg hunt. Just good fun and exercise for kids. Even Obama and Michelle had egg hunts. So you know it's not religious oriented.

I think the parents just have something against religion and are using this as an excuse to attack religion. Ever notice nobody attacks other religions, just the ones that believe in God.

And that is my opinion.

it's fine to have religious implications in church. - Not in a school, however

This was a church event evidently being advertised by a school. That actually isn't allowed.

Regardless, please see link for how the Muslim community responded

Since when is an Easter egg hunt religious? - Truthhurts

I did not read the whole article but when was the Easter bunny and an egg hunt deemed religion?

When are people going to stop the insanity?
Churches are religious. Church flyers sent out to schools. I think that's what they're - talking about

If mosques were sending flyers to school kids, I'm sure there would be outrage over it.
You betcha! ;) - nm

The event had nothing to do with church or church services - and

If mosques were sending out flyers for kids to get together to do a fun activity that involved no religion aspects to it there would not be any outrage.

Glad the Muslim community stood up for what is right.

The flyer didn't say easter - eggs are not religious

It's a flyer from a church inviting children to an event at a church given - at school. It doesn't have
[ In Reply To ..]
to say "Easter." Give me a break. The bunny and eggs and timing of the event are a dead give away here. If the flyer was handed out in December, had a pic of a tree, and was inviting people to a Secret Santa event AT CHURCH, we'd all know it's for Christmas.

Like I said above, if a student brought home a flyer from school inviting them to an event at a mosque, the same people crying about this situation being ridiculous (including Fox "News") would be outraged, probably scream about how Muslims are trying to recruit their children, and somehow find a way to blame Obama for it.

If a church wants to invite people to an event at their church, try putting the flyers in mailboxes, hand them out in front of a grocery store, take an ad out in the Pennysaver... don't hand them out at school. It's really kinda simple.

do an egg hunt in July?
Easter is a religious holiday. It's called an - "Easter" Egg Hunt.
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm not sure how that isn't religious, unless you don't think Easter is a religious holiday.
The flyer doesn't say Easter on it. It's an assumption - by too many
[ In Reply To ..]
that it has anything to do with Easter. No where on the flyer is the word Easter or anything religious about this event.

But hey, the picture of that poor little bunny rabbit. How frightening that must be for them. LOL

Oh yeah, by the way...there is nothing that links eggs with Christ. I eat eggs all the time and not once think of Easter. I've also never been to an egg hunt where a church service was being conducted while we looked for eggs.

My solution to this insanity? - Rose

[ In Reply To ..]
Take away the time off around Christmas because it truly is a religious holiday - it is the birth of Jesus, for crying out loud - but nobody is going to touch that one!!!! Just listen when you say there won't be time off over Christmas for schools, sports meets, workers, etc. You can't have special Christmas sales and if you do, don't mention Christmas because that is infringing upon someone's rights....if you can't talk about Easter, then you shouldn't be able to talk about Christmas either.

That's a good one, but I have an even better solution - The Sarge - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Don't go. You don't want to participate in an event because you think it's religious, just don't go. You don't want to go to church, don't. You don't want to celebrate Easter, Christmas or whatever holidays don't. Nobody is shoving it down your throats that you have to. Don't go and be happy. You don't like a flyer, don't look at it. Probably would take all of 5 seconds to crumple the flyer into a ball and toss it in the garbage. But don't take away the rights of other people to do things they want to do because you don't believe in it.

You're right again, Sarge. - Truthhurts

We aren't forced to participate in Ramadan (sp) or other Muslim religious holidays, Kwanza (sp), or any of the Jewish holidays, so why can't those of other religions just ignore our traditional holidays?

We don't raise a stink because other religions have their holidays and they are allowed to openly celebrate, so they should stop raising a stink over ours.

Would it open the eyes of those who want their 15 minutes of fame or those trying to force their views on us if we did the same to them? Nope because SCOTUS would say we don't have that right. Is that fair? Nope, but you can't even get the ACLU involved because they don't believe in equal rights for Christians and whites. This is what our country has turned into and it needs to end.
a stink is not being raised over "our" holidays -- - just advertising them in a school (sm)
[ In Reply To ..]
This isn't about "them" and "us." It just isn't.

There are laws about advertising church activities in school - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Don't like the law? Change it. It's just the way it is. Nobody is taking away anybody's rights.
Yes there are, but this is not a church activity - no services are being held
[ In Reply To ..]
Everyone is free to go or not. People don't want to go then don't, but don't spoil an outing for others cos you got something against some religion when it's not even religious.
It is IN a church. nm - nm

It is NOT in a church. - There will be NO services
[ In Reply To ..]
and they don't hold relay races inside a church. This is an egg hunt and relay races. Last thing I knew eggs and racing, playing running and having kids having a fun play day is not religious. There is nothing religious about this.

We can do this all day long. The simple fact is, there is nothing religious about this. I will be going to a movie in Easter Sunday, but that does not mean it's religious. These events are not held inside a church and there is going to be no services held. This is just a fun day for the community to get to know one another. Our neighborhoods do it all the time.

Again, NOT in a church, NO services will be held while the kids are looking for eggs and racing around outside playing.

But that picture of that whasky little wabbit? Oh he's the sinister one alright. Those people should be terrified of that. I mean I looked at the picture and now am afraid to sleep at nights. LOL
An Easter egg hunt to Easter is like Black Friday is to Christmas - Carol

Neither one of them has anything to do with the real reason for the celebration of the holiday.

It's all about money. If there are retail items to - be bought to celebrate a holidy, -

[ In Reply To ..]
"religulous" or otherwise, then it will be rammed down everyone's throats. The latest thing I've seen on TV is non-stop commercials for toy companies, to get the kids toys for Easter. Is that what people do nowadays? All my parents gave us for Easter was a single chocolate rabbit, some jellybeans, and a Honey-Baked ham for dinner.
