Is there a good med for mood elevation?

Posted: Aug 26, 2011

I've been so depressed lately.  This has been a terrible year for me, a lot of things have gone wrong in my life and to top it all off my income is steadily going down.  I get so depressed that some days I cannot get out of bed and then when I go to work at my computer, I can hardly sit still to transcribe, I just can't concentrate.

I've had Paxil before, and that made me not care about anything.  I didn't get happy, couldn't cry, just stayed right in the middle.  My father died when I was on this and I couldn't even cry for him no matter how much I wanted to.  Getting off of the Paxil was terrible--withdrawal off of that is no fun.

I tried Cymbalta, too, and couldn't take it for more than a week before I felt that terrible feeling (to me) that something was taking over my body.

I'm wondering if there is any medication that actually improves your mood and doesn't make you feel like it's trying to take over and blunt your emotions.  I want a pill that once it starts working it's like YEAH, THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT kind of thing.  lol

Is there such thing?  Thanks in advance for anybody who answers.

OTC mood elevator - cr

I've found Sam-E, which can be purchased over the counter, works well and quickly, but unfortunately for me, it also causes insomnia and ankle edema. That may not be the case for you though.

I swear by SAM-E - jj

I have been on the NatureMade Sam-E and I take it with a Black Cohosh also. My kids say I'm easier to get along with also. I am 38 and swear I am perimenopausal. My kids got on my nerves, my husband got on my nerves, the air conditioner kicking on and off in the house got on my nerves before the supplements. Now, things still get on my nerves, but I seem to be able to handle it better. I don't get as worked up about it and I don't bite my kids and husband's head off over the littlest things anymore.

I wish I could say OTC meds worked for me, because I don't have any health insurance and the stuff available by $4 rx didn't work for me.

The only thing that ever helped me when I was in near-crisis mode was Lexapro. There were days when, if I didn't have to run this house and property, I would have off'd myself and I'm not kidding. I even had adios notes written out to family and everything.

I was told it could take a few weeks to kick in but I noticed a DRAMATIC difference in about 4 days. Like the difference between suicide and having hope difference. I actually said to myself, "So this is what it feels like to be NORMAL?!" It was that life changing.

Once I got my mo-jo back, I was able to leave the house, go for walks, and eventually got enough nads to go to the gym. I've been off it now for over a year and still have some down days (who doesn't?) but nothing like where I was. Now that I know the warning signs, all I have to do is call my PCP and they will slide me some samples because the cost of them is just retarded.

Someone told me the equivalent, Celexa, would work just as well. Unfortunately, it did not, but I did give it a shot for about a month. I guess, sadly, we have to experiment with our own bodies and hope we can make it through that phase until we find something that can help.

:)

Wellbutrin is what has worked for me. Have - tried most of the others and

all had side effects that I was not willing to deal with. I have been on Wellbutrin now for about 8 years, and it has been much better. A lot of the work has to be done on your own, but it has helped.

Exercise. It goes head to head with all - anon

and does just as well for mood (and for mild depression) elevation and in some cases better than medication.

One would think this is the time of year when everyone is just a little bit nicer to each other, but this year I am noticing a lot more busy, angry, and rude people.  Now this might be the stress of this year.  I know that I have literally pennies to try to buy presents for my kids and that is really stressful.  I spoke with some people and it is just like that everywhere.  Has anyone else noticed people being more grumpy or just plain rude like when you go shopping or just d ...

Four Doctors were talking to each other about who was the best patient to operate on. Adjustment Disorder With Anxiety And Depressed Mood Jun 17, 2015
is my (MT-related) dx after finally visiting a shrink last week.  One of these days, I'm optimistically hoping to be "adjusted" again, in a new field!  Not that I'm not a good MT, I have confidence that I'm very good at what I do, but it's just -- you know. Thanks for reading. This forum is the only place I have any communication at all with "coworkers," and I can't begin to tell you how much I value it.  It lets me know I'm still sane.   : ) ...

Why Is It When You Get Something Good ...smAug 05, 2012
When you get something good, everybody wants a piece of it.  My hubbie got a very good job.  He drives an eighteen wheeler and has had some crappy jobs.  He waited to get on with this company for months.  He is making great money.  Enough so that I could quit transcription and go back to college.  (Thank you Lord)  He makes the mistake of telling people how well paying it is and everybody wants a job.  I said it's real simple if they have an opening ...

No matter how much you hate him this is a good article.  Cut him down all you want but it won't change the truth. Here's a quote from the article: Mr. Bush said that "the role of government is not to create wealth, but to create the conditions that allow entrepreneurs and innovators to thrive."
